[SOLVED] What does error "environment block too small" on booting-up laptop mean & how is it resolved?

After working on USB3 attachment issues with Win7 VMs on my laptop, I have started to get this error message on booting up:

What is an “environment block”? How do I remove the cause of this problem?
Gparted shows that I haven’t run out of storage space on the drives - I still have most of the space free.

Pressing any key to continue, allows the boot-up to proceed normally, though it will continue boot-up itself after a pause at this screen for some seconds.

Many thanks for your advice…

sudo rm /boot/grub/grubenv
sudo grub-editenv /boot/grub/grubenv create
