Known issues and solutions

PAM and PAMBASE got updated, which might prevent you from login

Due to updates from pambase and pam you might take care about any .pacnew files in /etc/pam.d as for example pam_tally, pam_tally2 and pam_cracklib got deprecated. Read in the ArchWiki about managing those files.

Typical issue:

For recovery, it is enough to boot with kernel option “systemd.unit=rescue.target”, then proceed into /etc/pam.d and merge “system-auth” and “system-auth.pacnew”

Older Issues

System takes a long time to boot

If you’ve got errors like Failed to start Network Manager Wait Online. you can try removing systemd from passwd and group in /etc/nsswitch.conf as described here
Update: If you can see the line
dbus-daemon[1453]: [system] Connection has not authenticated soon enough, closing it (auth_timeout=30000ms, elapsed: 45146ms)
in in your dbus log ( journalctl -b -u dbus ), the new/better workaround is to switch cups from service to socket as described here:
systemctl disable org.cups.cupsd.service
systemctl enable org.cups.cupsd.socket

I think I’ve some font problems

With the update of fontconfig some major rules how fonts get applied changed. Make sure that your system has ttf-dejavu installed. A more in depth explanation can be found here.

Gnome-shell-extension-pop-shell is currently incompatible with wayland

… and causes the system to freeze when the first window is tiled and can render it unbootable. Solution is a hard reset and disabling either pop shell or wayland. If the system becomes unbootable, use a live USB to edit /etc/gdm/custom.conf to disable wayland and reboot.

Gnome-Terminal:
flickert like hell
Solution:
Einstellungen --> Farben: Farben vom Systemthema verwenden -
Settings -> Colors: Use colors from the system theme -
check - unscheck -check the checkbox.

But broken is too: Fenster / Fensterfokus Fokus beim Ăśberfahren doesnot work anymore!
Window / window focus Focus when driving over
Solution: switch other possibilities and back: then works again…

I had accident when my terminal emulator died during mkinitcpio -k linux58.

So kinda my fault I had to recover that with chrooting.

Now I don’t have the pacnew files. May I ask anybody to paste them here?

I can loggin to root via TTY, but have no sudo ability now. :confused:

EDIT: nevermind it got fixed after I logged in to root via tty, now it works :open_mouth: no idea what was that

I just noticed this too. Interestingly, gnome-terminal-fedora does not seem to have the same issue.

Seems to be a matter of .cache/**(file) to be re-written when checking/unchecking checkbox or even .config
EDIT:
it is --> vte3 0.62.0-1
Workarounds: Any of these:
Use the Adwaita theme
uncheck *Use colors from system theme

Portal is not keeping the name from mkvtoolnix or any other program, now you have type the complete name in the Portal.

In this latest update I get this strange output after login in the tty initial shell.
( A small detail , I start my system in old run level 3 systemd equivalent. )

-bash: append_path: command not found
-bash: append_path: command not found
-bash: append_path: command not found

Rechecked my .bashrc and .login files by the calling source .bashrc .
But the previous output is not shown again , everything checks correctly …

Although several “updates ago” I noticed that the telinit application were removed …
Where do I start to debug this ?
