For the last week or so I have noticed plasmashell is using around 33% CPU and Xorg around 16%
I have a 4 core machine, so that is about two whole cores.
It happens as soon as I log in, I suspect it is related to a recent update.
What can I do to resolve this?
Thanks,
Ian
I second that notion. After the last update, plasmashell and lattedock are using each ~30% CPU (as shown in $ top). I will reinstall soon and see, if I can narrow the problem down, but any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers

What cpu?
Plasma and other programs are starting so higher temporary cpu usage is obvious. You can disable desktop effects and startup programs.
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.76.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.8.18-1-MANJARO
OS Type: 64-bit
Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz
Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVCE
Sorry I didn’t explain clearly. I wanted to convey that the high CPU usage is from straight after logon and doesn’t go down even hours later.
I have fixed it by using propitiatory drivers
