Firefox only partial hardware acceleration (nvidia)

Hello,
I saw in about:support that i have unsupported HW:Accelerations, i was looking for a solution and i found out, that i need to install libva-nvidia-driver to get it working.

I still don’t have full HW Support yet but still the most necessary video codecs are supported after the package. Should i stay with partial HW Acceleration and call it a day or is there more i can do?

Firefox - about:config

media.av1.enabled	true
media.av1.use-dav1d	true

maximum av1, more is not possible as far as I know

Maybe try:

If hardware video acceleration is blocked with error code FEATURE_HARDWARE_VIDEO_DECODING_DISABLE in about:support , you can override it with media.hardware-video-decoding.force-enabled=true . See [11] for more information.

Firefox - ArchWiki

Those values appear to be enabled by default and AV1 hardware decoding works for me.

I try’d that already… not working. The error code also not showed up in the support window.

Edit: Actually i had media.hardware-video-decoding.force-enabled = true already activated and i just set it to false again and check the result and the HW Acceleration is fully is gone.

So the command alone did not changed anything, but after install libva-nvidia-driver
the additional command gave me the HW Support.

Out of all of those decoders, Firefox won’t support HEVC for now

Mozilla will not support HEVC while it is encumbered by patents.

Also, to my understanding, hardware-accelerated AV1 decoding was introduced with 3000-series (and encoding with 4000-series) Nvidia cards.

Yeah true story… i still wondering why the other sound codecs are not have HW Support… even if i don’t really need it, but shouldn’t it supported by default?

If you have hardware that supports them. I don’t, so all the audio decoders are software-only for me :person_shrugging:

I have a Creative Soundblaster AE-5… but i have no idea about the Linux drivers for this Soundcard.

I haven’t had a dedicated sound card since I was a kid, so I have no idea what to do there :frowning:

This thread reminded me my ryzen was just on the cutoff for av1 accelerated decode.
So enhanced-h264ify – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox (en-US) it is :person_shrugging:

Maybe there is no HW Sound support, i need to check my Firefox in Win10.
