[Solved]Can't login after update ,does nothing ( some times logs in but it's a mess!)

Hello , after an update I can’t login anymore to Plasma desktop.

I am writting my password and does nothing. Now,the weird thing is that after pressing Alt+Ctrl+Backspace and enter my password ,some times ( after a few tries ) it can login but the windows are a mess.I have no control of the windows (open, close, minimize…) ,they are fixed width/length ,the navigation bar has been shrink etc.

I tried to run nvidia-settings but it gave me a warning that a card does not exist ( even though I had installed the intel-hybrid-nvidia-bumblebee).I tried to install it again but it showed that it was already installed. So,I removed it and installed nouveau but still the same…

I installed xfce4 and I can login with no problem! But when I tried to install nvidia then I couldn’t login at all to xfce4 also. So, right now I switched to nouveau and I can only use the xfce4…

What can I do for this?

Thank you!

I am no longer a KDE user but for a start you should at least give the output of inxi -G
Don’t forget to put it enclosed in the

Code brackets (Editor toolbar: </>)

Graphics: Card-1: Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller
           Card-2: NVIDIA GK208M [GeForce GT 740M]
Display Server: X.Org 1.17.4 driver: intel
           Resolution: 1366x768@60.00hz
GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel Ivybridge Mobile
           GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 11.2.2

Right now I am using nouveau as I said.I can’t use nvidia.

Given the number of changes you’ve made (which have subtly altered a number of things) I’d suggest a reinstall as the quickest and easiest way of returning to a working Nvidia+Intel Optimus setup.

I can’t format every time an update occurs…
I hope someone has an idea about this…
I can’t understand why I can’t login using nouveau…

That’s right, but working out and undoing all of the changes you made will take longer than reinstalling.

I suspect the changes you have made has broken the graphics driver setup. Depending on what you’ve done, you might have set nouveau as the driver but be booting with your Intel graphics. Or the Nvidia card is set to display on a different output. Or… or…

I just did an update.I didn’t do anything else.
And I still don’t believe that format is a solution.I have installed/configured a lot of things and its a pain to do this from the beginning…

Nothing else?

I misread your OP, it did sound like you had done a lot more but I missed the KDE->Xfce reinstallation.

I haven’t tried any other managers.I had only sddm and after what happened I installed xfce4 in order to test if it works.

So, I solved by deleting the xorg.conf file and reinstalling again nvidia. And it works! The xorg.conf file that has been created is empty right now!But everything is working fine! And no formats !
