so is it possible to boot Manjaro on this machine?
with the bootoption “nomodeset” like the others Linux-distibution are not working :frowning:

or is there a chance to fix this in the next Manjaro-realese?
the Manjaro Beta2-XFC is tested and is not working too…

best regards

EgLe

can you return from bios any proposal option
on EFI & USB & mass storage ?

try to boot with “maxcpus=1” or “nosmp” instead of “nomodeset”, or if you use “nomodeset” then remove “quiet” and “splash”.

Hello @stephane,

Hmm, i dont unstand what you mean?
Now i have make screenshots from the Bios.
is it that what you want?

Whats the best way to post pictures here, with this forumsoftware?

Hello @bogdancovaciu,

so i have try the bootoption “nosmp”, the screen is stoped by
[OK] Started TLP system startup/shutdown

in the line from the Boototion i can not remove “quiet or splash”, in this Line you can see only

linux /boot/vmlinuz-$2
initrd /boot/intel_ucode.img /boot/initramfs-x86_64.img

these variants are tested:

linux /boot/vmlinuz-$2 nosmp
initrd /boot/intel_ucode.img /boot/initramfs-x86_64.img
linux /boot/vmlinuz-$2 maxcpu=1 nosmp
initrd /boot/intel_ucode.img /boot/initramfs-x86_64.img
linux /boot/vmlinuz-$2 maxcpu=1 nomodeset nosplah noquiet
initrd /boot/intel_ucode.img /boot/initramfs-x86_64.img

is all the same system is stoped by:
[OK] Started TLP system startup/shutdown

please post links for screenshots

Where is this? Which file?

Hello,

her the link to the NUC BIOS Gallery
https://www.pic-upload.de/gal-1165722/vdlsqn/1.html

@petsam

if i start the Live-USB-Stick and i see the Screen "Welcome to Manjaro"
so i select the Line:

Boot: Manjaro.x86_64 kde

and press here “e”, so i come in the screen were can i set the bootoptions.
and in this screen you will see

linux /boot/vmlinuz-$2
initrd /boot/intel_ucode.img /boot/initramfs-x86_64.img

or is this the wrong way to set the Bootoptions?

PS:
Just for fun, now i have install “Debian 9 KDE” from USB-Stick with “bootoption” nomodeset".
After the installation, i have updatet the system, and now it is booting without the “nomodeset”.

it´s crazy, Debian9 is working, and Manjaro can not booting (:confounded:

you have activated
-SecureBoot
-LegacyBoot

since 2015 , bios starts to add any always more options that are bad
and it’s coming from Intel

ask them how to boot with manjaro

Yes, that’s correct (I haven’t ever seen this, never had to do it on MJISOs).
Try adding this to the end of line linux

amdgpu.dc=1

This GPU seems to be new and have low support in Linux (yet). I am not sure, though. Maybe an AMDGPU expert would support you better.

Tip from here

Hello,

@stephane

hmm, okay SecureBoot was enable, after update and reset with the latest Bios-update.
If this aktivated so i can only boot with (ubuntu & LinuxMint) Sticks…
by the other Linux-Sticks i get this error by booting:

Image Autorization Fail.
system can not boot to this devices due to security violation

Press Enter key to continue

LegacyBoot is not included, ist only UEFI-Boot inside.

Hmm, okay i write to intel why can not boot Manjaro, but this is in there website:

Note If you need assistance with Linux* on Intel NUC, check your distributor’s website and forums for peer assistance.

Okay, in Moment works Debian 9 KDE (with all new updates) without the Bootoption “nomodeset”:wink:

@petsam
Thanks, but with the follows options is not working :roll_eyes:

linux /boot/vmlinuz-$2 amdgpu.dc=1
initrd /boot/intel_ucode.img /boot/initramfs-x86_64.img

linux /boot/vmlinuz-$2 amdgpu.dc=1 nomodeset
initrd /boot/intel_ucode.img /boot/initramfs-x86_64.img

linux /boot/vmlinuz-$2 nomodeset amdgpu.dc=1
initrd /boot/intel_ucode.img /boot/initramfs-x86_64.img

it al the same :sweat:

Hello,

so the Question is posted by Intel Support forum…

https://communities.intel.com/message/550305#550305

so, I look hopefully into the future :neutral_face:

I had a issue with booting into a anther OS. I can’t remember what the error was. But it work fine with LegacyBoot. So I had to update my uefi bios. And that fix my uefi boot issue.

Another thing you can try. Is download the latest development iso. Witch used unstable repo.
https://manjaro.org/manjaro-preview-releases/

Hello,

@Days
thank for the
https://manjaro.org/manjaro-preview-releases/

after Manjao 17.1.10 i had test the Manjaro 18.0 (beta2).
It the same result…

But,
Linux surprises me more and more, now current i have tested and install Netrunner

this image can start normaly “without” Bootoptions, and after install is it booting too without extra Bootoptions.

so this is the first Image, that will start without problems to the Gui,
and this posting writing under “netrunner Linux” on my NUC :grinning:

Okay, Netrunner is Debian testing, but no Manjaro (rolling system) :neutral_face:

Everything is very strange for me…

notice: i have found mor information for a graphics-driver:
https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=AMDGPU-Vega-M-Kernel-Support

maybe helpfull for a new beta-version?

Netrunner-Linux:

this post wasn’t up to date and i deleted it. Never mind.

You might be able to disable secure boot by giving a bios password.

Hello,

so i have test it.

It is the same error.

So i have try the new Antergos (Live an Minimalversion), ist the same error :sweat:

So the next test was i install archlinux (2-4 times) Manuel and with archfi, this is booting.
But if i install a desktop witch archdi, its teh same.
So its sure the problem is not on my Bios, the Problem is the new AMD Radeaon RX Vega M.

wich make me sad is all other Distributions Debian stable, Kubuntu… works with falling back to simple Vesa-modus.

egle@NUC8i7HVK:~$ glmark2

At the moment i have now install Kubuntu 18.04 works fine in simple Vesa-modus and after installation i have install new Kernel and Mesa from this threat PPA:

And this works very well on Kubuntu :slight_smile:

Unfortunately, there is no cli version to install Manjaro which works.
Manjaro Architect breaks me off just as soon as I want to install the kernel.

hopefully I can use Manjaro again in a few months :thinking:

or is there anywhere a Iso-Image like Arch to install manjaro like Arch without gui?

@EgLe
In your Kubuntu terminal, can you provide the following output?

efibootmgr -v
sudo blkid
ls /sys/firmware/efi/efivars

Thanks.

Just 2 things: I am struggling to get my hardware running and found that the latest 4.14 and 4.17 running best. The latter even leaves no boot errors inside the journal. I did some tweaks to the bootloader though which might not fit your hardware. If you can, try these kernels and report back.

@calvous:

this was my plan, on my Desktop-PC with Manjaro i take the new Kernel 4.18rc.
That’s why I tried a onyl cli-installation.
And by Manjaro-Archirect i cannot install a Kernel, and the manuel install with pacstrap and genfstab it doesn`t work.

So for Manjaro , it is not possible for me two install these manual to try new Kernel and new mesa…
And by my Arch-Linux it is so, after install X-Server and now crashing it is not possible for me to Log in.
The keyboard reacts reluctantly, so can not set my password for login.
If i have time i can install Arch new without passwd, to testing with these:

or i wait some times hopefully of new Kernel and Mesa? :smirk:

But if is posible to help the Manjaro-Team for me, i am happy to help with my terrible english…
I like this Distribution, if is work :hugs:

PS;
Maybe a suggestion for improvement?
In Bootmenu still an option for an entry for a pure cli installation without GUI like Arch,
for people with the latest hardware and GUI boot problems :wink:

Thanks for the output. And yes, most likely a graphics thing, as you mentioned much earlier.
But on this I cannot help much, so good luck and hope we can get this done in Manjaro.
Cheers. Take care.
