Smplayer missing tray icon in KDE when playing movie

Hi, when I play movie using smplayer I can’t see sound tray icon.

Should I install some package so it will work or is it a bug?

Is it still missing after a restart ?

Which theme are you using? Most likely it is that issue that started with Plasma 5.13, which changed that particular icon and most old themes started to fail until updated.

I bet you that with Breeze, it doesn’t happens.

I’m using breeze dark and it works fine

Yeah I have Breath theme set. In Breeze it looks like there is an icon

How can I fix this? Can I copy same icon from Breeze theme to Breath?

You could try this. Always trust good ol’ forum search. Good Luck!

yeah good luck :smirk:
I noticed that vlc uses the same tray icons for play etc, does that show ?
Maybe the fuzzy filename of what you were playing has something to do with it, maybe smplayer does not show a tray icon for porn ? LOL

Those are general, standard icons for media playing. They are not specific for smplayer, or vlc or whatever, but system ones for every time there is an application playing any kind of media. Even the web browser if you have the plasma browser integration extension.

There is an media icon in Breath theme under /usr/share/plasma/desktoptheme/breath/icons/media.svgz but it must be incorrect somehow… When I try opening it i get

no warning when I’m opening Breeze theme icon. Could it be the problem here?

You know what? I changed the desktop theme to breath and replicate and I had the icon. But if I change the icon theme to breath, I lost it. So the issue is with the breath icon theme, more than with the desktop theme.

Try and change icon theme to breeze, or any other.

Ehh. I clicked Breeze icon theme in system setting and my OS completely hung, even mouse cursor. Needed to hard reset my computer… After reset and changing icon theme tray icon works. Thank you for help :slight_smile:

Wow, that was weird! Anyway, all’s well that ends well. You are welcome.

Don’t know if it is relevant to os hung but just after reset I’ve got notification that I have 1 new language pack to install for gimp (I installed gimp like 15 minutes ago ). Could It be why os hung? Is there a way to restart KDE somehow like ctrl+alt+backspace in linux mint?

I don’t think it is related. Don’t get too riled about it, sometimes it happens. Most likely if you do a:

journalctl -b -1 -p 3

You should be able to see the cause of the segfault, or core dump or whatever caused the hung in the boot before the actual one.

To restart plasma, in terminal or TTY:

kquitapp5 plasmashell && kstart5 plasmashell

Ok thanks for information :slight_smile: I think there is nothing in logs so I let it pass

$ journalctl -b -1 -p 3

Thanks

Ok another hung happened. I think it is firefox related. Where can I write bug report?
