Sleep not working properly, fan is always on

,

Hi!

When my laptop goes into sleep mode the cpu fan keeps spinning, it doesn’t matter the temperature or the time it is sleeping, the fan will always be on, which ends up consuming all the battery.

Let me know which logs could be useful.

I hadn’t found any similar post related to this. Thanks!

Welcome here, @fardenz,

have you tried a newer kernel, especially 5.12? Make sure your system is fully updated.

Hi @Wollie
Thanks! I am very grateful for your help

I am running right now on 5.13 (Experimental version) and it is still happening. Should I try with 5.12 as well?

Yes, try 5.12 a well.

Hello,
Look at tlp and check the behaviour after closing lid in settings. I had similar problem few years ago in other distribution, but finally I found resolve of the issue in lid behaviour.

Hello fardenz,

welcome to the club! Right now, sleep with many AMD chips is broken.
It used to work, although sometimes a bit of fiddling around was necessary, but for several months now, it isn’t. As far as I can tell by trying to get “modern standby” to work, they have broken normal standby for a lot of us post-5.11.
You can try 5.10, that still works for me. Otherwise you can only hope and keep on waiting.
Rumor has it that 5.14 might work again, but I’m not holding my breath anymore.

What makes me a bit angry is that instead of getting a working new solution ready first and deploying it afterwards, they made a huge mess and broke a (mostly) working system.

Edit: However, I just noticed that one of the latest updates in testing has brought back some functionality. So at least there’s finally some progress!
It seems my laptop (with Ryzen 4600U) now enters sleep again and manages to wakes up most of the time (with 5.13.2 - not sure if recent firmware or other updates play a role, too) - sometimes it will lock up completely and require a hard reboot, though.
But it’s an improvement, finally. From no proper sleep and locking up everytime a few months ago, to no proper sleep and locking up every other time until recently to apparently proper sleep again and locking up about 1 out of 10 (estimated).
