Hey guys. I had an issue with the latest NVIDIA drivers just a short while ago. Discord updated, so now I have to update my computer again. Will this update kill the 3000 series graphics cards? If yes, how should I avoid that fate before I reboot my computer xD
I doubt it. The last update was only the discord
package, so nothing else will be updated unless your system was not up-to-date to begin with.
Well I previously had to backdate the drivers. How would I know if my manual driver change has been overwritten in the latest update?
Can I show you my console logs? Perhaps you can help.

That would be the case, given that you need to update the kernel.
If you only want discord
, then you can try…
sudo pacman -S discord
… but be advised that this will leave your system in a partial-upgrade state, which we cannot support.
I’ve already done the full update. The logs are above in the previous post. It does mention NVIDIA in there. How can I know that these aren’t drivers that are gonna kill my computer on reboot?
You don’t. Or I don’t think you do. I think that issue had been solved, but since I didn’t have it, I don’t know for sure.
You’ll either have to check the #announcements:stable-updates announcements, Nvidia’s website, or install the previous driver, or update, reboot and test. You can always install the drivers from a chroot
environment.
Ah thanking you kindly for the link to the announcements. This answers my problem. They reckon they fixed it which is nice.
