SDDM won't show (can't boot) even though SDDM itself is fine

Manjaro KDE. At the time SDDM should appear, the screen freezes. I can access tty2 and there I can see that (systemctl status sddm) sddm is fine.
I believe the problem is with nvidia, as the last suspicious thing I did was opening the nvidia settings manager (I don’t think I changed anything) and ran nvidia-xsetting (I believe that’s the command).
I’m pretty sure I’m using the latest nvidia drivers.

Thanks for your help

The problem indeed came from nvidia-xconfig* which apparently overrides mhwd.
Anyway, the fix is removing the file it creates at /etc/X11/xorg.conf (you can move it if unsure)
