Screen times out instantly when there is no input

Hi, screen flickers black during start up and once booted is only visible when there is mouse input. Everything else works fine and no issue on external monitor when i add one. I have tried multiple kernels and reinstalling intel drivers but with no luck.

Anyone know what could be causing this issue?

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

  1. Thank you for posting an inxi! You’ve been paying attention! :grin:
  2. I don’t really understand what your issue is as it’s a visual one: Does you internal screen go black immediately if you don’t use your keyboard or mouse? Does it come back immediately when you do???

:thinking:

Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes that’s exactly what happens. I’ve come across the issue with multiple distros e.g. manjaro, pop os, Ubuntu LTS and even in the arch cli install so im a bit puzzled by it. Maybe a kernel issue?

  • If you get lost, please remember Ctrl+Alt+F1 is your friend!

  • Print this page so you have it as a reference while in TTY2

  • Log off

  • Switch to TTY2 by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F2

  • Log in there

  • Execute:

    sudo mhwd-kernel --install linux54
    sudo mhwd-kernel --install linux510

    • to ensure grub is showing, execute:

      sudo nano --backup /etc/default/grub

    • Change (or add?) the following 3 lines:

      GRUB_TIMEOUT=3
      #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
      #GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden

      (3 or higher is fine, add the # before the lines above if those lines are present)

    • Ctrl+X Y Enter to save if there is anything to save

    • If you did save, execute:

      sudo update-grub

    • Reboot

  • Go to grub’s Advanced options

  • Choose these kernels one by one and try them out one by one and see if that helps.

  • If it does, remove 5.13 Stable as you’re now on an LTS (Long Time Support) kernel.

:+1:

Hi Fabby,

Sorry for the late reply I have been away from my PC.
Thanks for the help. I managed to fix the screen flickering issue by adding this line to the grub command line, updating the grub and rebooting.

i915.enable_psr=0

Might be worth a go for anyone else who runs into the issue.
