I recently noticed screen tearing on my monitors, it’s more obvious in videos with flashing lights or rapid movement and some games too (I noticed more in the game King of Fighters).
I’m consulting this: AMDGPU - ArchWiki
But since my laptop has Hybrid GPU (AMD/AMD) I don’t know how to proceed correctly without probably break something…
Any help would be great!
If you guys want some data or outputs of any kind please ask, I will gladly provide them.

For what i understand i just have to create /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-amdgpu.conf
then add this:
Section "OutputClass"
Identifier "AMD"
MatchDriver "amdgpu"
Driver "amdgpu"
EndSection
and then add Option "TearFree" "true"
so it will stay like this?
Section "OutputClass"
Identifier "AMD"
MatchDriver "amdgpu"
Driver "amdgpu"
Option "TearFree" "true"
EndSection
I don’t know if, based on my hardware I have to do something different…
If someone please could confirm me that’s the right way to do it, I’ll be gratefull…
I also would like to know if this could result on a black screen or unbootable system and if, to revert it, all I have to do is just delete the file…
I’ll apreciate any kind of advice regarding this subject!
It seems fine (according to the Arch wiki), but I’m not sure if the hybrid graphics will complicate things.
You can test it temporarily using this . At worst you just reboot.
xrandr --output *output* --set TearFree on
Obviously replace *output*
with the name of the monitor from xrandr
.
Yes delete the file, and of course reboot.
Another option is picom, which can eliminate tearing (not sure it’ll work with fullscreen games though).
Thank you, I was so focused on the file creation that I totally forgot you can set it with that command, in my case, after running xrandr -q
was:
xrandr --output HDMI-A-0 --set TearFree on
That worked perfectly, thank you so much for the help
You’re welcome.
