Screen flickering when cursor is moving over "Dash to Panel"

Hi everybody!

I used Manjaro with XFCE on my old notebook (Dell XPS) without any major issues for a couple of years. On my new notebook (Dell Latitude 7430) I installed Manjaro with Gnome. I to switch to Gnome/Wayland because I want a different scaling for the internal notebook screen (4k) and the external screen (FHD).

Unfortunately the screen is flickering quite a bit. Mostly when the cursor is moving over “Dash to Panel”. I will try to attach a short video and screenshot for clarification.

The system also froze a few times. I had to hard-reboot the system to recover. If I remember correctly this always happened when navigating through the Gnome Settings window. Not sure if that’s related to the screen flickering though, but I’m guessing both could be related to some issues with the graphics card (Intel Iris Xe).

I have the same case with my new HP Victus. The screen is flickering particularly when I hover the panel at the bottom of the screen.

Some more information about the system freezing I talked about: There are many people out there having the same issue. Seems to be related to the new Alder Lake Intel CPUs and the mesa package. You can read more about that here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/6757

For me the freezing seems to be gone since I installed the updated mesa package (v22.3.1).

The flickering is gone as well. But I guess that’s because I switched from Wayland to X11 and have the screen scaling disabled for the moment. I’d love to switch back to Wayland, but for some reason that is not working. I started a different thread about that problem :frowning:

Thank you for the response. Just for info in my case there is no freezing just flickering. But in my laptop mesa 22.3.1-1 has been installed. Unfortunately screen flickering started while simple browsing in firefox :smiling_face_with_tear:

Anyone can help please so annoying it is :smiling_face_with_tear:

Then I guess you could get rid of the flickering by either disable display scaling and/or switch from Wayland to X11.
Not sure though if you want that.

My default session was X11 and I have just tried the Wayland as well, nothing changes unfortunately :(. Could you clarify the disabling the screen scaling ?

I was lucky to find this extension, had the same issue and it works great. It took me month’s to find a solution to this issue. I installed the extension, no more flickering/glitching and you can stay in Wayland. Cheers!

Hey Thanks!
Unfortunately I had a lot of issues with kde manjaro. So I switched to pop_os. Appreciate your help!
