I installed Linux Manjaro with KDE Plasma and ran into an issue: whenever I watch a fullscreen video with a mostly black background, the screen starts to dim. I’m on a desktop PC, not a laptop, and there’s nothing in the power settings related to this. Any idea how to fix it?
Welcome!
I think it could be related to “Energy Saving Settings”, “Power Saving Mode” on the Monitor side. Please, check your Monitor for these settings if you didn’t do it yet.
Hi @morfoloo,
Please also confirm that night mode isn’t active.
Also, have a look at this, it might help:
I had this with one of my monitors. Quite annoying!
It was a monitor setting in my case; nothing to do with the OS.
Thanks a ton, that really helped — I just turned off DCR!
Turning off the Dynamic Contrast Ratio of your monitor is one way, I suppose;
the other is to disable a power management setting:
(KDE) System Settings → Power Management → Energy Saving → Dim Screen
Regards.
I just checked and the current monitor doesn’t have it, it’s the previous one which does. I found it very distracting when the (full screen, not zonal) auto-backlight dimming made the subtitles and player controls ramp up and down in brightness along with the scene.
Whoever thought THAT would be a good idea?
(I turned that off promptly, once I found the setting).
