Extreme graphics corruption with kernels 6.4 and 6.5

As per the title, if I install any version of kernel 6.4 or 6.5rc I get extreme graphics corruption both on the desktop and the vt. Kernels 6.3 and 6.1 do not cause this problem. The effect is difficult to describe but looks like the all text/graphics are scrolling sideways at very high speed making using either the desktop or vt impossible, I have to do a hard shut down and boot to an older kernel to post this. Anyone got any ideas?

It is an Intel laptop with built in Intel graphics and the problem is not unique to Manjaro, it also occurs on Artix.

Welcome to Manjaro! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

  1. Please read the information behind this link. It will help you to post necessary information.
  1. Please press the three dots below your post and then press the :pencil2:
  • If you give us information about your system, we can see what we’re talking about and make better suggestions.
  • You can do this by using inxi in a terminal or in console.
sudo inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width
  • Personally identifiable information such as serial numbers and MAC addresses are filtered out by this command
  • Presenting the information in this way allows everyone to be familiar with the format and quickly find the items they need without missing anything.
  1. Copy the output from inxi (including the command) and paste it into your post.
  • To make it more readable, add 3 backticks ``` on an extra line before and after the pasted text.

Have you already :mag: for your problem in the forum ? (Wisdom lies in asking → listening → reading  )

Tried a couple of things today, firstly disconnecting my second monitor from the laptop along with peripherals like wireless keyboard and mouse and secondly booting with a boot cheat code:

i915.enable_psr=0

Neither of these made any difference.

Of course it is not a big problem using an older kernel, I could use an lts one if necessary and subsequent kernel revisions might correct the problem given time.

Ok, so I finally got a workround for this, it requires the following boot code:

intel_idle.max_c-state=4

For those interested, “C-States are used to optimize or reduce power consumption in idle mode (i. e. when no code is executed)”

So it is a workround, but I will mark is solved.
