That look so simple but I haven’t found how to reinstate password request on startup ? Did I miss something ?
This is probably what you are looking for:
System Settings → Colors & Themes → Login Screen (SDDM) → Behavior → Automatically log in
Wow this one is pretty well hidden. It doesn’t seem to make sense to me. It probably should be under “sessions” or “user”.
Anyway that works !
Thanks and Merry Christmas !
Don’t forget to mark the solution.
Nevermind, it’s X-Mas…
I’ll do it for you.
SDDM is the display manager. Its the thing that runs first and initializes your desktop … and the thing that provides that first login screen. Thus … finding ‘password prompt on startup’ settings under the SDDM section is rather logical.
It is also the place you would have set ‘automatic login’ in the first place.
Yeah, but not so logical to have “Behavior” under “Colors & Themes”.
Well, behaviour in terms of animation might be best placed under Colours and Themes; not that there is any great deal of animation effect in Plasma.
I have to confess, though, I’m not yet fully adjusted to the last restructuring.
Perhaps, but that’s not really what behaviour means (at least to me) and we’re talking about logging in automatically which is definitely not an animation.
Who would expect that an option for logging in automatically would be under Colors & Themes? It makes no sense.
I wouldn’t, but I was only looking at it abstractively. There are a few other cases too, where I’ve thought positioning could have been better handled; but then, I wondered if that was only because of what I was used to previously; then I forgot about it after a time.
Indeed.
The KDE people seem to change this layout on a regular basis so don’t be too surprised when you have to hunt for the options.
Nothing much surprises me anymore when it comes to decisions based on multiple opinions, preferences and egos.
