Screenshots are irrelevant to the project. All topics not immediately relevant to the project must be strictly avoided.
OK, we get it.
Itās just dull.
Iāll go read the forums rules :). Maybe also having fun here is also strictly forbidden because itās not relevant to the project.
Slippery slope right thereā¦ what about users who arenāt donors? Maybe theyāre not needed either? Or people using hardware not from Manjaro sponsors? Maybe theyāre not needed either?
Who told you this? Did I miss that in the guidelines page?
I cannot blame (I have no reason to do it) the decision of the maintainers; but in anyway there is Reddit:
The ones on Reddit arenāt the same
Might as well use /r/unixporn if weāre going to share screenshots on Reddit
https://www.old.reddit.com/r/unixporn
The Manjaro team said they are trying to make the forum strictly a support forum.
Well that really sucks. Iāve met so many new people in the old forum, and I think this rule alone will make it even harder not just me but also everyone to get to know each other.
Right - go ahead, create it then.
Sorry but Iām not doing it because someone already tried this and failed, let alone breaking the rules (Iām serious).
Yes, I know.
There were many āoff-topicā threads - like ā
Plasma is Great
ā where people just threw up ideas and screenshots. It was one of those threads which persuaded me to try Latte - I donāt get many ideas from help forums. Whilst Iām not a fan of screenshot threads myself, though I did enjoy @SGS work - got a few ideas from him I donāt see the harm - I donāt see the need to exclude something simply because it doesnāt interest me.
I wasnāt interested in āLatte is greatā until after Iād seen a few posts (in the Rants and Raves section). Next up someone started a long thread about Music players in general which brought up a lot of things which I wouldnāt have looked at or encountered in a normal technical forum.
Obviously thereās a very good reason the team donāt want this kind of frippery - threads like āDolphin Sucksā which lead to a great indepth fight over whether it was a pig or not and in the process threw up many educational comments and workarounds for minor issues which wouldnāt come up normally.
This is how the Manjaro Team feels about such threads. Feel free to have a read thru
To sum it up, they donāt feel like chit chat
should be on the forumā¦
I created that thread
You should be proudā¦ it only survived for two days before bogdan slammed the door on it!
Iāve been given a ticking-off for posting the output of the command āscreenfetchā on here, in a thread where I assumed that info would be conducive to the purpose of said thread.
.
BTW not by a (current) Mod apparently, otherwise I wouldnāt have posted this; but take heed. Help to keep this valuable Forum alive for those who really need it.
Correction: āScreenfetchā not āScreenshotā. It was late, sorry about that.
ā¦Or move to another one apparently Jonathan joined those guys over at endeavor os
Iām surprised it DID last two days to be honest. I also got @nadb to shed some light on whatās going on. He used to be well respected on the old forumā¦
Nah, moving is a pipe-dreamā¦ better to struggle on, and make Manjaro great again! (never thought Iād repeat TheDonaldās slogan, but heh, the shoe fits!). Or is it donāt let the see you bleed? I forget.
Canāt belive the tableāve turned.
Now Arch forums have Screenshot thread and Manjaro wont!!
Who would guess that ARCH linux community would be the more warm and chilling place than Manjaro forums
What draw me to Manjaro (by many things) was the community, it would be sad if community building is disallowed. I think by having off topic forums, screenshots threads etc. keeps people and community together. I hope the devs/admins/mods/etc. takes that into account.
regards,
Storm
Community building is allowed but not that way, we can already see how much better it works and we can actually find things when using the search.
