Regression: usbguard blocks fingerprint after sleep

after the latest big update a few days ago usbguard has started blocking my fingerprint device after my device goes to sleep. I’m not sure if this is a problem with usbguard or some other component. All I really know is that it doesn’t seem to actually be the rules.
|

[manjaro ~]# usbguard list-devices --blocked
16: block id 06cb:00bd serial "3dbf48c08b66" name "" hash "iq1yyUJDvugX9sY3qYn2wxZjiQH49W5KXUG8HCEL/ss=" parent-hash "jEP/6WzviqdJ5VSeTUY8PatCNBKeaREvo2OqdplND/o=" via-port "1-9" with-interface ff:00:00 with-connect-type "not used"
[manjaro ~]# systemctl restart usbguard
[manjaro ~]# usbguard list-devices --blocked
[manjaro ~]#

I added the last rule myself after this problem started ~1week ago, hasn’t helped

I’ve tried regenerating the rules too, that didn’t help. If anyone knows a workaround that’d be great (obviously I could disable usbguard), but I also believe this warrants further investigation as to why this has started.

Name : usbguard
Version : 1.0.0-5

It only seems to be impacting my fingerprint device, though I haven’t tried bluetooth.

Instead of:

Have you tried:

allow id 06cb:00bd serial "3dbf48c08b66"

If that doesn’t work,

  • Post an inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width as that would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)

  • Reboot

  • Execute:

    systemctl hibernate

  • bring back from hibernation

  • post the output of:

    journalctl --system --boot=0 --priority=err

:crossed_fingers:

I’ll give this a go, but this is still a change in behavior, not sure if I should be reporting this to arch.

Please feel free to file a bug upstream, but include as much information as you can and be super-professional about it because the average Arch user is hostile towards the average Manjaro user.

:scream:

ok, it’s not entirely a problem of usbguard, seems gnome thinks it’s a new device every time too. btw, that solution didn’t work, so I’ve disabled usbguard for now.

I won’t be able to help you any further, so I’d say: file a bug…

:sob:

I mean, afaik this is kind of a bug, I haven’t seen an appropriate way to file a bug with manjaro, and if it’s a problem in a manjaro package, arch will be pissed  it may not be a problem in usbguard. I’m not even sure usbguard updated recently.

Please read this:

Especially the What’s this Upstream / Downstream business and then file a bug upstream, because it’s definitely not a bug in one of the Manjaro tools…

:sob:

[quote="[HowTo] become a Manjaro power user when you’re a wizard at Windows but a N00b at Manjaro / Linux, post:1, topic:13646"]
ou’re a N00b again! Embrace it!
[/quote]

I’ve been using Linux since 2003, admittedly I haven’t been using it full time since 2014 (I was using it as my primary desktop before then, but then I was mostly on work Mac as a Java Developer) until march of this year, but still. So forgive me if I find this a little patronizing.

Also, Manjaro does change packages from arch, it builds some differently, it changes the PKGBUILD’s for all I know this is caused by some tweak to the kernel that’s being made. I haven’t dug through every library updated ~2 weeks ago.

now since usbguard hasn’t been updated since early august, and this happened in early september, do you have any suggestions on which package is causing this? see this is a problem with manjaro over arch, it’s a lot harder to tell which package has been updated.

My apologies, it’s just a boilerplate answer that:

you’re running this package, I’m not, so I can’t help you any further and hence:

:sob:

P.S. You’re also the first veteran to be offended by being sent to the N00b page in 3 years. Most veterans respond with :joy:

And which package is that? for since usbguard hasn’t been updated, I’d say it stands to reason it might be the Linux kernel or libfprint (which is no end of issues for me). I really don’t know which package. I suppose I’ll go report it to arch to see if they have any idea how to debug it. They’re likely to tell me to F* off if I mention the manjaro anything though.

I’m in a really bad mood these days, lot’s of personal drama. I’m so tired of having to run around and badger people to do their shit. Lawyer’s need to do their stuff, ISP and Phone Company should do theirs, My moving company needs to get me my stuff, it’s been 3 months… dev’s need to fix their bugs.

usbguard: you might be running a newer kernel / newer libs than the devs themselves: Manjaro is at the cutting edge…

If they know about them…

:bowing_man:

As to the mood, the only thing I can to for you is to… please bear with me until the end… refer you back to the N00b guide: Even if you’re a veteran, it’s a pretty funny read and I’d like your input on how to improve it!

 :+1:

well, I’ve uninstalled usbguard, and rebooted after yesterdays update. I just went to log in an fingerprint wasn’t available at log in, but it was after. I think it’s somewhere else. Maybe libfprint… I suppose I can go find my previous, recent, libfprint, bug and remind myself how to enable the debugger for that. I’m hoping it’s not the kernel but who knows.
