Change (or add?) the following 3 lines:
GRUB_TIMEOUT=3
#GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
#GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden
(3 or higher is fine, add the # before the lines above if those lines are present)

Ctrl+X Y Enter to save if there is anything to save

If you did save, execute:
 sudo update-grub

you had to, but that was not because grub was corrupted … it had changes in parameters

Ah, also, maybe you could enable early KMS for your iGPU, because you are using the i915 driver. In some cases it helps.
