Recovering from Unbootable System after Mid-update Crash

Please excuse me if there is an easy answer to this out there, I’ve been running between different threads and tutorials and have decided I’ve either done as much as I can or have done enough damage already. Last night my laptop randomly froze mid-update (will make separate thread on this semi-frequent freezing), breaking both my kernels (linux61 & 67) as well as pacman, yay, and pamac (returns immediately to command prompt in chroot). I was able to fix the first two package managers by force (meaning --overwrite "*") reinstalling from chroot, however when attempting to force reinstall the kernels (not through mhwd-kernel, as it returns “no targets specified”) I get various errors regarding failed symbol loading and dkms building.

[manjaro /]# pacman -S --overwrite "*" linux61 linux67

I hoped that maybe these were issues I could fix from my installation, but upon restarting after running update-grub, it skipped grub and booted straight to my installation. During this process a few errors displayed, obtained now from journalctl --boot=-1 --priority=3 (the entries from system-logind, avahi-daemon, & bluetoothd did not display during boot, only from systemd, just to be clear):

One more thing I should probably mention is that originally I had nvidia-dkms installed, but with the DKMS errors part of my attempts so far to return to a system I can login to was repalcing it with linux61-nvidia & linux67-nvidia from chroot. Lastly, some information (all from manjaro-chroot environment, idk what’s up with the 12s):

Apologies if this is not enough information or presented in a terrible way, I tried to follow the basic guidelines I could find, but a lot of peoples’ advice and wants are conflicting.

at this point just reinstall it… there may be some still some issues because of your nvidia tinkering, but we will see…
from chroot run this:

pacman -Qqn | pacman --overwrite=* -S -

when done, exit chroot, and reboot

Got this after checking package integrity:

I am probably quite stupid for answering yes to all those without completely understanding.

did you run the exact command? because it skips security checks, so there should not be any of those signature errors…

Reinstall arch- and manjaro-keyring first.

I did run the exact command. Running it again though I was able to reinstall everything, although with the same errors produced for the kernel installations. I am now able to boot and login though with the GRUB menu also showing up. I was also able to reinstall the kernels once again but without any of the errors from before. Pamac has also started working again. Thank you for you help!

NEVER overwrite globally. The --overwrite flag should only be used with the directories containing the files that need to be overwritten.

❯ man pacman | grep overwrite
       --overwrite <glob>
Bypass file conflict checks and overwrite conflicting files. If the package that is about to be installed contains files that are already installed and match glob, this
option will cause all those files to be overwritten. Using --overwrite will not allow overwriting a directory with a file or installing packages with conflicting files and
All three files are the same, so overwrites are not an issue. Install the new file.
