reboot fails

from the main menu, when I click reboot or power down
it looks like it hangs in the middle of shutting down.
Some windows remain in the monitor, too. And I have to perform hard power down.
Is there any way to diagnose or let me know what to do?

A few rules of thumb...

  1. Always close all application windows before starting a system update/upgrade, because files and libraries could be in use that are being overwritten in the update/upgrade process, and this would confuse the hell out of the running processes that try accessing those files.

  2. Ideally, you should log out of the graphical environment completely and run the update process in a character-mode virtual console. Hit Ctrl+Alt+F2 if your desktop environment is Plasma ─ other desktop environments will use a different character-mode virtual console for themselves, so you may have to go through the Ctrl+Alt+FunctionKey from 1 to 6 to find a free virtual console. Then, you log in and you issue the command...

sudo pacman -Syu
  1. A hard reset should only be used as a last resort. Try using the magic SysRq keys first. Press and hold Alt+PrtSc/SysRq and then, while holding both keys down, press the following key sequence, with a pause of about 1 to 2 seconds between each key press: R, E, I, S, U, B ─ it's "busier" spelled backwards, or if you want a funnier meme, "Raising Elephants Is Still Utterly Boring."

  2. Even though the Plasma menu allows you to shut down or reboot the computer from there, the advice is to not do that. Instead, log out of Plasma until you see the SDDM greeter again, and then choose the option to shut down or reboot from there. This gives all running processes the time to terminate properly, without any race conditions.

Note: when using journalctl, piping to less is useless (it's already in less). Use parameters instead (this is equivalent to and better than what you posted)

journalctl -b -p3 --no-pager --no-hostname

Thank you. Here is the log.
System: confirmed updated.
BIOS: up to date.
Still takes at least a minutes to get back from suspend state when I open the laptop lid.

journalctl -b -p3 --no-pager --no-hostname

Seriously Hello, did you read any of this error log? Hopefully you posted your own solution as bad usb cable or sometimes you will get this error if the usb connection is bad too. All the other errors probably do not help either, try to trade up on the computer.

Thanks, for poitning that out.
But all usb is working. I'm not too worry about usb port.
I just want to use reboot from UI menu.
For now systemctrl reboot seems to do fine,
But I would like to find out why it fails from UI.

I understand you despise reading?

Without info, we can just guess. Do you need real advise, or just guessing remotely (which is really fun, BTW)?

True. I didn't go over the link. I'll come back to this when I go over.
I was only pasting journalctl log.
