I wasn’t talking of sysvinit no longer being maintained, but about the gtk2-based gdm no longer being maintained.
PCLinuxOS still defaults to this gdm version for its Plasma edition because its PCLinuxOS Control Center (PCC) — which is based on the old Mandrake/Mandriva code and uses gtk2 — cannot be used for configuring sddm.
