Ever since the bigger update last Monday (Feb 3rd) which elevated my Manjaro Stable to kernel 6.12.11-1 I am getting random freezes.
It is reproducible when I open Gimp and try to open several images as layers. But it has happened on other occasions, too. But this one is reproducible.
Can I help here in any way?
Yes
Please provide inxi -zv8
so we can try to help you.
random is not reproducible
Either it is reproducible or it is not
Without system info it is impossible to advise
- lack of adequate swap space comes to mind → Swap - Manjaro.
Here’s my inxi -zv8

As you also have an AMD Radeon Vega Graphics, these random freezes might be caused by an Issues with Mesa 24.3.x and AMD Vega Graphics, as described in this thread Issues with Mesa 24.3.x and amdgpu Vega graphics / Pacman & Package Upgrade Issues / Arch Linux Forums.
Based on latest news this issue is hopefully gone with Kernel 6.12.17-1-lts and mesa 25.0.1.
Just a quick note to address a common misunderstanding when an issue is said to be reproducible;
An issue must generally be reproducable by others for it to be useful for troubleshooting purposes.
If you think about that in context, every issue you might have is likely to be reproducible (for you); but, unless others can also reproduce an issue, it’s increasingly difficult to confirm a cause.
You might already be aware of this; others, maybe not; so this note is equally for anyone who might have made assumptions when reproducing an issue is spoken of.
Regards.
