I can’t even remember the last time I updated without any issues, but I can’t seem to fumble my way through this one.
If I use bauh to update, I get the following:
resolving dependencies…
looking for conflicting packages…
:: qcoro-0.11.0-1 and qcoro-qt6-0.10.0-1 are in conflict. Remove qcoro-qt6? [y/N] error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: qcoro-0.11.0-1 and qcoro-qt6-0.10.0-1 are in conflict
If I use Discover, nothing happens, and if I use Pamac, I get the following:
Error
Failed to Prepare Transaction
Failed to generate ceph-libs information
Your account suggest you are using manjaro since 3-4 years? Maybe it is time to read a wiki page or two? (Protip: learn to differentiate between repo and aur packages and the proper tools to do the job, for example update the core system first with pacman, clean orphans, then rebuild aur…etc. etc.).
Even if bauh is relatively decent, it is unofficial tool and cannot do everything for you automatically. Manjaro is a rolling arch based distro - it is not set-and-forget, it sometimes requires manual work. You will not do without sudo pacman -Syu this time (and reacting adequately on the prompts.)
automated updaters don’t work when the software has been installed system wide through the package manager.
updates happen through pacman
or by re-building AUR installed … software
It’s the job of the package manager to do the updates - not the job of the “automatic updater”
…and as in the example above the conflict is between repo version and aur version, it is definitely recommended for inexperienced user (you) to prefer the repo version. It is actually newer in this case anyway. Might not always be the case.
I know I have a lot to learn, and now that I’m retired I hope to spend more time on it, but thank you both for helping me out in the meantime. I used sudo pacman -Syu to update.
It’s okay, I was expecting a scolding, but I was stuck, and honestly more of a lack of confidence than laziness. I’m always hesitant to remove something using the command line if I have no idea what it is or what it’s for. I need to get a separate system to use for learning so if I screw it up, I can still use my primary system. Bauh always takes a snapshot before updating, but if you can’t even boot your computer, that’s not much help (and it’s happened to me a few times.)
I truly appreciate people who take the time out of their day to help me out, and I don’t take it for granted.
