qBittorrent lost it's system tray's monochome icons

Cannot reproduce here?

@Firestar
Your screenshot shows a colored qBittorrent icon …
To support your claim you’d need to show a monochrome icon.

A brief explanation of @alven’s post:
There was a monochrome icon before the update, but it became a colored one afterwards, and selecting monochrome one in settings has no effect, this mere fact comprises the essence of the issue.

That’s how I understood @alven’s post.

freggel.doe , openminded, yes, you understood the issue correctly, thanks.
IDK what I miss to note to make the issue clearer to be understood by all.

Firestar, if to switch qB to any monochrome icon, do you see that qB icon in notification area became monochrome?
The setting is here: PreferencesBehaviour → (scroll down) Tray icon style

My PC is having this system info
Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.89.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2
Kernel Version: 5.15.8-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11

The

~/Desktop ❯ qbittorrent -v
qBittorrent v4.3.9

version was not changed for a long time:

~/Desktop ❯ grep qbittorrent /var/log/pacman.log | tail -n 4
[2021-11-01T07:24:47+0300] [ALPM] upgraded qbittorrent (4.3.8-1 -> 4.3.9-1)
[2021-11-17T10:58:46+0300] [ALPM] reinstalled qbittorrent (4.3.9-1)
[2021-11-17T11:53:36+0300] [ALPM] reinstalled qbittorrent (4.3.9-1)
[2021-11-17T12:06:53+0300] [ALPM] reinstalled qbittorrent (4.3.9-1)

Seems to be the mentioned update changed this or a bit earlier update, since which I did not reboot the PC.

Just checked the

~/Desktop ❯ pacman -Qi qbittorrent-git | grep "Ver"
Version : 4.4.0rc1.r66.g2fb0c86f1-1

version: it has the same issue.

journalctl -f while execution and exiting contains not hints.

The

~/Desktop ❯ pacman -Ql qbittorrent | grep "scalable"
qbittorrent-git /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/
qbittorrent-git /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/
qbittorrent-git /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/qbittorrent.svg
qbittorrent-git /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/status/
qbittorrent-git /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/status/qbittorrent-tray-dark.svg
qbittorrent-git /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/status/qbittorrent-tray-light.svg
qbittorrent-git /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/status/qbittorrent-tray.svg

are present and looks good in a picture editor.

Works fine here …

It was working perfectly for me the other day when you first posted your problem, and now after seeing your new comment, I decided to check again and now I have the same problem as you. Currently on version 4.3.9-2, (fortunately for me I don’t like monochrome icons so I don’t use it).

I checked the qBittorrent.conf file and it gets updated when I apply the change but the tray icon does not.

As these things can be generated by the desktop theme (Plasma Style) … please check with others.
(and note yours that is having issue, if there is any difference)

Just checked the fresh release version manjaro-kde-21.2.0-211220-linux515.iso: it works file there.

EDIT:
Checked current developer daily ISO build:
manjaro-kde-21.12-development-unstable-211223-linux515.iso: it is the issue - only normal icon is shown.
So it is not a lack of a user config.

Will post further info if will able to realize details.

Noticed the same issue in stable. The icon used to be white/monochrome on dark background.

Cannot embed images or links here, but it looks like this: ht+ps://0x0.st/o-Zf.png

> pacman -Q manjaro-release qbittorrent
manjaro-release 21.2.1-1
qbittorrent 4.3.9-2
> grep TrayIcon ~/.config/qBittorrent/qBittorrent.conf
Advanced\TrayIconStyle=1

I guess this will just be ignored then?..

The way I see it, if an application gives the user an option to switch which icon to use the desktop environment should respect that change. Anyway, whatever this issue was, it appears to be fixed for me with the latest versions of qBittorrent (4.4.0-1) and KDE Plasma.

Well … that could be down to the theme you use … which is a point of information.
(and may or may not have anything to do with manjaro)
So “the way I see it” … it was worth sharing and examining in any case.
But, again, I guess we will just ignore that and move on…

Hi All,

There is a topic about this and it is qt6 related. This seems to be the root cause for these issues.
https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/ryg1w9/qbittorrent_breeze_and_qt6/

I dont think the tray icon is the same issue…

Yes, qbit changed its ‘internal’ style and such with the qt6 change … but the tray icon still works as expected - set to mono on a dark panel the icon is properly white.
(because it is still determined by theme of “Plasma Style”)

“not a qbt bug” “plasma related” “theme” … yup.

(see v.4.4.0 here, and v4.3.9 above)

Testing Update discussion suggests installing qbittorrent-qt5 from AUR

[Testing Update] 2022-01-17 - OpenSearch, Kernels, KDE, Cinnamon, Pipewire, Mesa - #51 by michaldybczak
qbittorrent-qt5 is compiled and installed. Works and looks fine. I guess this is the best solution for now

That’s not necessary. The current version available in the unstable repository restores the correct behaviour. I can successfully switch to any of the 3 tray icons available.
