Python prominence in Update announcements

As the usual jokesters come in with their tut-tuts and “holier-than-thou” attitudes, I will simply add that a Python upgrade is a fairly big deal, almost on the level of dropping kernel support (which I always check for). Due to a metered connection, I separately download the packages (via pamac -w) before installing and I noticed this was a particularly large upgrade with a lot of Python packages, I came back to look at the announcement but clearly not closely enough. I figured that since it had been a relatively quiet period upgrade wise, and also since there were a bunch of Haskell package updates, there was no big change in the works.

I recall in previous system Python upgrades that this was highlighted much more prominently, with links to the famous post describing how to carefully keep track of old versions of Python packages.

Maybe this was not necessary this time around. I had a few packages like caffeine-ng which broke, but which I managed to re-build. However, if I had been more aware of how big a change this was I would have arranged to upgrade at a more convenient time and taken more care with tracking breakages. I need to use my machine for other things but I will still have to go back and see what precisely remains broken.
