Traceback (most recent call last):File “/home/leder/bin/gnome-randr.py”, line 3, in import sys, os, dbusModuleNotFoundError: No module named ‘dbus’

pip3 install dbus

ERROR: Could not find a version that satisfies the requirement dbus (from versions: none)ERROR: No matching distribution found for dbus

Please avoid posting garbage along with command output – by garbage I mean anything similar to:

 1 ✘     

All it takes is to be a little more careful when selecting the actual command output.

Please provide more context, generally – including (but not limited to) respective versions in play, how you installed the application(s) concerned, etc.

Please also provide your system information as described (below) which may allow others to identify possible contributors.

Regards.

Welcome to the Manjaro community

As a new or infrequent forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with forum requirements, and the many ways to use the forum to your benefit.

Note: By virtue of using the Manjaro forum you acknowledge and agree to follow Rules and Guidelines outlined; so, you really should read them:

Required Reading
Highly Recommended

Work with us, not against us

Be prepared to provide output from commands when asked. It is equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.

Simply waiting for others to ask you questions can be counter-productive – typically, nobody has a :crystal_ball: at their disposal – instead, please help others to make informed suggestions based on information you provide.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command (with appropriate parameters, and formatted according to forum guidelines) will generate information useful for those wishing to help:

Suggested inxi command (use either):

short-form: inxi -zv8
long-form: inxi --filter --verbosity=8
Running `inxi` within a `chroot` environment
  • Add --color=0 to the long-form command, or…
  • Change the short-form command to inxi -zv8c0

File “/home/leder/bin/gnome-randr.py”
This is a non-standard PATH which you must have consciously set.

echo $PATH

printenv
could also be useful

I know nothing about python or pip - I just noticed that to me unusual PATH.

Thank you for the inxi output and attending to formatting.

Note that dbus is already a part of the Manjaro Gnome (as a dependency of systemd it’s available in most Linux distributions) – what you actually did was to reinstall dbus, which achieves nothing beneficial.

The following links may be useful to you:

When I suggested;

the intention was to have you provide more information on things such as the Python and Pip versions used; how you installed them – whether from the official Manjaro repositories, or via the AUR, or perhaps manually – and to provide other details potentially useful for those who might wish to help.

With greater context, others may have a better chance of offering useful suggestions – What are you trying to do?

Hello @Nachlese ,

thank you for your message!

gnome-randr.py

is the python script I am running, that has module dependencies to dbus:
usually a missing pacman install is solving the issue, but not now - the package is already installed, but not found by the script!

I am curious about how to fix this issue.

None the less I have found a workaround in order to reset my gnome display configuration manually by editing the file:

~/.config/monitors.xml

And, what edits did you make as part of this workaround?

Clearly, attempting to install dbus using pip wasn’t the right way to do it; perhaps the importing method is the way to go; similar to some examples in the link I gave.

  • Note that this is not meant as a copy/paste solution; only a possible direction to follow. :eyes:
  1. nVidia proprietary driver version 580 is broken: it cannot control my display with more than 60 Hz reliably - so I reverted all refresh rate settings to 60 Hz and can work again with my new monitor

  2. Neither dbus nor pydbus are found in my stock manjaro python3 installation…

  • python use package python-dbus for “dbus module” (pacman -Qi python-dbus is really OK ?)
  • if installed, you not use the manjaro python ? another in home… (`whereis python3`)

Consider trying the 570xx drivers. This has worked for others, maybe it will for you. :man_shrugging:

  • As previously indicated, dbus is not part of Python3; it is installed as a dependency of systemd; also not a part of Python3.
  • As also mentioned, pydbus might have been a direction for further research; though whether it applies to whatever you are trying to achieve, I can’t say.

dbus and pydbus are the names of the python modules. python-dbus the pacman package, that I tried to install in order to offer the python module: this didn’t succeed.

The python script simply should set the gnome-control-center display settings via CLI: This is now obsolete as I have changed the config file of mutter manually - I will close this issue now…

Thanks alot!

  • python-dbus would be the python module;
  • You tried to install dbus using pip
  • If your system uses systemd then dbus was already installed as a dependency.

Nonetheless, you seem to have found an alternative to workaround your problem. :+1: I wish you luck.

Regards.
