Problems getting NVidia driver to work

I would like to configure my hybrid system to use the NVidia Reverse Prime method to only use the discrete GPU. I am failing to even get the NVidia driver to run though.

I installed the drivers with the automatic proprietary installation method. This give me the prime drivers.

My cards is recognized

❯ lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"
0000:00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Alder Lake-P Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
	Subsystem: Dell Device 0b1a
	Kernel driver in use: i915
--
0000:01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GA107GLM [RTX A1000 Laptop GPU] (rev a1)
	Subsystem: Dell Device 0b1a
	Kernel modules: nouveau

There is no nvidia kernel module available though and the system seems to still be using the Intel driver. Also when I use DRI_PRIME=0

❯ lspci -vnnn | perl -lne 'print if /^\d+\:.+(\[\S+\:\S+\])/' | grep VGA
0000:00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Alder Lake-P Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:46a6] (rev 0c) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

If I try to activate the Reverse Prime method using the mentioned xorg configuration, Xorg fails to start.

On the Arch forum it says that systems using DKMS fail to boot on processors later than 11th gen. No idea if this is related.

yes you need ibt if you are running on newer kernels than 5.15, so post output from:

Guess it is missing?

proper drivers are installed, so add the parameter:
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
and inside this line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT inside the quotes add this parameter:
ibt=off
dont remove anything, just add it to existing parameters, save the file with ctrl+x, press Y, then enter;
update grub:
sudo update-grub
reboot

Still nothing

$ prime glxinfo | grep "OpenGL"

did you added the parameter and rebooted?

Yes, I did

so provide full system info:
inxi -zav7
what drivers you have installed:
pacman -Qs 'nvidia|prim'
and configs:

the nvidia driver is not even loaded:

you have 2 prime packages, one the default one from official repos:

and the second one from AUR:

and thats possible the reason for the mess, so remove the AUR one:
sudo pacman -Rs prime
reboot and check with:
inxi -G
if the nvidia driver is loaded

Yes, this is was I suspected as well.

Still nothing unfortunately

if it was disabled in bios, the nvidia gpu would not be even detected…
enable early loading:
kate /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
and edit the modules section to look like this:

MODULES=(i915 nvidia nvidia_drm nvidia_uvm nvidia_modeset)

save it and update it:
sudo mkinitcpio -P
reboot and check again

I already tried that yesterday. The modules are not there for some reason

Standard Manjaro 6.2 Kernel. No idea…

switch to the 6.1 kernel and see if it works there

Seems like for 6.1 it doesn’t even attempt to compile the nvidia modules

looks like a messed up update… you have mismatch in versions… refresh mirrors:

sudo pacman-mirrors --fasttrack 5 && sudo pacman -Syyu

if it was updating kernel and nvidia, reboot and test again
