Problems booting after some changes

Hi,

I have same issues. I was able to use Manjaro 20.1 Kde plasma in last 2 months .
I updated for 5.9 kernel and installed couple of new updates for applications
Once I turned off my pc and only black screen. F(1-3) + ctrl + alt is not working for changing TTY simple black screen without cursor
I was able to login (in blind) the black screen changed for full white…
Live manjaro chroot has same symptoms only black screen.

Is there any idea how can I resolve this issue?
I try the steps whats you collected in previous comments simply everything same

my configuration:
kernel 5.9.1-1 mb: ASRock > B550 Phantom Gaming-ITX/ax cpu: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

Is this your current kernel? It seems you did not update for a while… When installing new packages you need to update your system upfront.

I updated it for a month ago.
that was the 2nd option in the list first one was a RT version. (sorry I am new in Manajaro)
any workaround for this?
(Live boot has same symptoms)

Hi I walked through on every possibility.

  • edit grub and boot parameters
  • manajro live and chroot
still same black screen no terminal just simple nothing only black screen
    any idea?

Even the live CD isn’t working? So probably a video card driver issue.

Yes but I was installing from this media
tried with
Win10 it was working
Pop_up os … same symptom… black screen
I will run some tests on Win10 maybe it is hardware or firmware / bios problem
I was updating the bios 1 month ago … I could not remember if I turned of after the PC or not
Bios restoring/downgrading is option too maybe thats the case…

Have you figured out what the issue is yet? It sounds like a driver issue possibly. Maybe try remaking the usb sometimes that works for me with general issues.

I rebuild it 10 times with 3 different OS distros

Only Windows shows anything

now I will try to downgrade bios

Do you have an nvidia card?

my configuration:
kernel 5.9.1-1 mb: ASRock > B550 Phantom Gaming-ITX/ax cpu: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
VGA RADEON RX5700XT

Now I was able to access TTY steps what I tried:

  • downgrade bios + nomodset radeon.modset 0 and rw 3 // was not working
  • update bios for latest (it was released 1 week ago) + + nomodset radeon.modset 0 and rw 3 //works I can see the TTY
I tried to update mirros and packages there was nothing to changed .
tried to start startx it was failing with EE no screen found

After checking pacman.log seems the kde update is the source of the problem?

Any suggestion?

I will try to downgrade or rollback this update but not sure how…

Any suggestion how to approach this issue?
downgrade the related packages ? (like make a script for execute all of related staff and exec downgrade )

If you can use TTY then make sure you are fully up to date:

sudo pacman-mirrors -f && sudo pacman -Syyu

Also see here for more help getting help:
How to provide good information
No-Install public command-line pastebin services

thank you for your response . I tried it unfortunately there “nothing to changed”.
I will try to provide better logs sorry for that…
It seems KDE update impact is this issue I am look for revert this packages but I am quite new in Manjaro and Arch distros

hope it helps .
I am still struggling with this issue
@cscs any idea? :confused:

update

mhwd-gpu --status:

:: status
warning: could not find '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-mhwd.conf'!

Problem identified.

Try with HDMI cable .

Issue:
Black Screen on every OS (Win10, Manjaro , Ubuntu/Kubuntu , PopOs… etc)

Solution

The display device identification via Display port wont work. Try first with a HDMI cable the OS can identify and register the display / screen device . Change back to the display port and see the black f*cking magic  . Now works with DP and HDMI too :stuck_out_tongue:
