Plasmashell locks up after downloading an image in any browser

I have png images I am downloading from a site and each time I download a file the plasmashell pegs at 100% on one of my cores and becomes unresponsive. I see this happen in the plasmashell output:

Really strange, what happends if you just create a Desktop picture with Print and save it?

Maybe change location on another drive or another partition… maybe a hardware problem.
