Pipewire 1.4.1 -0 - sound gap

I have the following problem with sound reproduction:
There is s sound gap (no sound), when starting sound files from SSD.
These are PCM (=WAV) files.

Hi @Keruskerfuerst,

I there is sound eventually, that sounds like the player is adding the delay, whether a bug or by configuration.

Check your configuration.

There is a sound gap:
the music is playing for one second, then a sound gap of one second and music continues to play.

Still sounds like the player, so I still advise you toe check your configuration of even try another player.

I am using VLC.

Where to check the configuration ?

:man_shrugging:

I’ve never been a VLC fan. Neither fanatic.

And I don’t use a media player this side, so can’t help you with that.

I would suggest a dedicated Audio player, such as Audacious or Strawberry.

If the problem still persists, you might look for and adjust the buffering configuration via the applications preferences.

Regards.

VLC Preferences > Audio

Or ~/.config/vlc

@Keruskerfuerst

In the VLC GUI, you might also wish to toggle “Show Settings” from Simple to All to expose a greater number of possible settings.

Regards.

I could not find any setting regarding buffering.

Nor I, at least not at first glance. Settings related to buffering of audio are often found in Audio players; the naming may vary.

Ah, I found it.

From Preferences → Input/Codecs → scroll down until you find the Advanced section (remember that “Show settings”: All should have been selected as prviously mentioned);

From there you can try increasing the “File caching (ms)” value; the values are in milliseconds; try modifying the default value to a greater amount (example 1000 is 1 second, 1600 is 1.6 seconds).

If your audio files are being played from a network location (example, a server or NAS) the buffering may be due to playback from these resources. In that case, you could try increasing the “Network caching” value.

I don’t use VLC often, but this seems the most likely.

Regards.

Now, I found this setting, too.

I have increased the buffering to 3000.

Now, I have no sound gap.
