PANON and back audio jack stopped working after I updated ALSA

I wanted to make audio drivers all up to date and installed ALSA with the terminal,

After that PANON does not “listen” to anything…

Front Audio Jack still works, but Back Audio Jack does not work too.

Researched and found nothing looking like but I saw people asking some commands:

Hello,

You know, after reading this

and this

0403 stands for what exactly?
It “sounded” (pun intended) like a prank post

First of, if there was an update to alsa, then other packages had update too. To make sure your system is updated, run:
sudo pacman-mirrors -f5 && sudo pacman -Syyu

or

pamac upgrade

Once is done, reboot the system. If you installed again the alsa, a reboot will be required too.

Hahaha
Sorry, english is not my native language, it’s not a prank, I think I’m jsut rusty in it.

I read this:

First, you run:

mhwd -lh -d --pci
look for your audio device

then run:

sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300 // replace 0300 with the pci number of the audio device
or

sudo mhwd -a pci free 0300 // replace 0300 with the pci number of the audio device

And I had this returning:

mhwd -lh -d --pci

I ran your suggestions.
also tried this:

killall -9 pulseaudio

pulseaudio --start

Gonna Reboot

Nope… Did not work

Oh! I realized I wrote wrong… It’s not PAMAC… I meant the widget PANON, it stopped working, that’s why I said it is not “listening” to anything… it is working but like there was no sound for it to interact with.

No worries. :grinning:

The MHWD does not have a different driver for audio. Yours should work, as all is done via ALSA and PuleseAudio or PipeWire server.

Share inxi -Fazy from terminal.

Panon also should work, but needs to be build (better from AUR) once your system is fully updated. Then in the settings you must chose the proper back-end. Exemple from mine:

More info:

  • I found something.
The Back Jack doesn’t work IF the Front Jack is plugged in.
I swapped the devices and the result is the same (the ports are what determines not the devices):
  1. One device in the back works
  2. One device in the front works
  3. Two devices… no matter what is the order of plugging 'em in, just the front one works (when I change to the line out (back) in settings, all mute, when I change to the headphones (front), this one works.
  • Panon doesn’t work either of those configurations (even when a device is reproducing sound)

  • Panon has the PulseAudio, PortAudio, and Fifo back-end options.

  • Tried all back-end checkboxes/back-end/input combinations and none work.

  • Tried several native and downloaded Visual Effects and none work.

  • In settings I have:

Inactive Cards:
Raven/Raven2/Fenghuang HDMI/DP Audio Controller - Profile OFF (off is the only option)
HDMI… makes me think it’s just my monitor, but sharing this information anyway, in case I’m wrong.

  • Edit 1: About the Inactive Cards:
Unplugging my monitor and plugging a TV (that actually has audio output) the “Inactive Cards” section vanishes as expected… The TV output works fine with one or two devices plugged.

OPTION 1 - Family 17th (Models 10h-1fh) HD Audio Controller Analog Stereo
-------------Line Out [[[Works IF there is no front jack plugged
-------------Headphones [[[Always Work
OPTION 2 - TV [[[Always Work

  • Edit 2: Tried to uninstall and install again the Panon… Before, it presented itself as a frozen visual effect (even new widgets, no matter the effect) Now it is message:

Error: Failed to load the visual effect. Please choose another visual effect in the configuration dialog.

Tried several back-end/visual effects combinations, nothing works.

System updates using pamac or pacman package managers should include the latest available linux audio drivers

If ALSA has been reinstalled, ALSA audio settings were probably reset to default

Please post more information about ALSA audio settings

amixer --card=1

Audio output to rear jack sockets is usually muted in ALSA by Auto-Mute Mode if an audio jack is plugged in to front headphone jack socket

This command will disable auto-muting of rear audio jacks

amixer --card=1 sset 'Auto-Mute Mode' Disabled

Additional changes may be needed to unmute and set optimal audio level for outputs to Headphones or Line Out
