Pamac Will not launch

I was updating a few items in the pamac manager today, while doing some other things, anyways my desktop freaked out, started breaking, I hard reset it, and now pamac won’t launch and gives me this
“Launching add/remove software (Failed)”
"The name org.manjaro.pamac.manager was not provided by any .service files "
Yes I have tried restarting, I appreciate any help.

Likely you will want to look at your logs to see where the interrupt happened:

less /var/log/pacman.log

What happens if you run pacman?

sudo pacman -Syu

You may want to reinstall some packages, ex:

sudo pacman -Syu libpamac pamac-cli pamac-gtk

Please report any errors or pertinent output.

It’s not a good idea to do updates with many other apps open. It can cause incompatibilities between the running programs and newly updated libraries. That can lead to crashes like the one you experienced today.

I tried to reinstall, but it told me it couldn’t due to conflicting files, past that i saw a bunch of ^@^@^@^@ in the console with a white background, unsure of what that means, but i also found

So you can try again with overwrite (normally avoid this. use with caution)

sudo pacman -Syu libpamac pamac-cli pamac-gtk --overwrite='/usr/lib/libpamac*'

(without the full output/logs its hard to know what all needs to be replaced … but we can start there … I am loathe to simply suggest “overwrite=‘*’”)

Aren’t the libraries being used by running programs copied to memory? So overwriting the file shouldn’t affect the running code?

idk but i guess it makes sense why, I was doing stuff on steam while it was updating so i think it did interfere and screw it up

Since you have a functional package manager in pacman,
And in order to avoid using a glob* with overwrite,

You can just uninstall, wipe out possibly faulty cache, and reinstall:

sudo pacman -Rn pamac-gtk pamac-cli libpamac
paccache -rvk0 pamac-gtk pamac-cli libpamac
sudo pacman -Syu libpamac pamac-cli pamac-gtk

I should also encourage you again to look at /var/log/pacman.log to see where the interrupt occurred, and which packages may be affected.

And the last one I suppose you can use overwrite

that had errors too, I think im just gonna backup my files and reset my manjaro, I guess pamac is just dead now

Which errors?

A Linux system is always repairable. However, it depends on how much effort you want to put in.
If you have a reasonable backup, a new installation seems the better approach.
