Packages for Audio

Hello Everyone!

I have a desktop with AsRock H410m-HVS, intel i5 10400f and Sapphire Radeon RX7600 GPU. Since I build this computer I have no sound. When I plug speakers in jack output I can’t hear anything. When I connect USB headphones the sound is fine. I used to have a sound card (Powertech) and the sound was fine. Now I removed it and the computer is silenced again. When I connect the speakers to my screen the sound is fine. It is clearly that the problem comes from the motherboard’s output. I updated my BIOS to the latest version (1.31) and I have tried to disable and enable the HD Audio, as someone recommended in another forum.

I have tried everything and I have no idea what else to do. Is there any package I could install?
Thanks for the attention!
Ask me for more if I forgot something

It may well help if you provide your inxi output:

inxi -zv8

… please use the code formatting (the </> button at the top of the Reply window or the three backticks ``` on lines above and below the pasted output).

Note: This output is privacy-filtered using the above command.

This will at least give us a start; hopefully we’ll be able to spot something.
Why did you remove the sound card if it was working, though? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
… Maybe the onboard audio was disabled in the BIOS/UEFI settings, possibly as a result of fitting it?

The PCI sound card was bought for 12 euros. When I bought my new headphones I realized that the sound was horrible. So now I connect them to my monitor.
I tried to disable and enable the onboard audio in the BIOS as someone recommended on reddit and nothing happened

Never take any advice from Reddit, YouTube, Facebook, or even worse, ChatGPT.

I’m no audio expert, but I’m guessing that with the removal of the plug-in sound card, your sound is being send to the wrong sink.

What is the output of… :backhand_index_pointing_down:

Too late for that. Reddit and youtube have solved almost all my problems! :joy:

I didnt have any sound even before i install the sound card

Well, I see some interesting information in that output, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to leave it to our resident audio expert. :man_shrugging:

Are the audio jacks on the motherboard, or connected via cables?

on motherboard

That at least should rule out interconnect issues … hopefully @nikgnomic will have some time to spare when he’s next online.

Thanks for the help Aragorn! Take care!

ASRock H410M-HDV motherboard has a Realtek ALC887-VD for analog audio playback and capture that usually works well on Linux.

Data from pactl list shows 2 audio cards in PipeWire.

Card for HDMI playback appears to be working, so it should be possible to play audio to the Samsung F24G3xTF monitor speakers or headphone jack

The Built-in Audio card profiles and ports for Line Out and Headphones are not available:

Please post more information about ALSA mixer settings for Built-in Audio device:
