Trying to install “nmap” package and package manager fails. These error messages don’t provide much information. Package manager (GUI) seems to be up to date. What’s wrong?

manjaro.kurdy.org regularly has issues. It’s not a big problem if you still have other mirrors in your list. pacman will simply switch to the next mirror.
Ah yes, the signature issue. Try the following…
sudo rm -rf /etc/pacman.d/gnupg
sudo pacman-key --init && sudo pacman-key --populate archlinux manjaro && sudo pacman -Syu

Not sure what you did – that command line is a mouthful – but it appears to have worked. Need to reboot to be sure…

Thanks! Now the package manager command line works alright, but the package manager GUI gives me an error “Error: Authentication failed”. I can now use nmap; it would be nice to have the package manager GUI working.
Either use a 6.12 LTS kernel or later — currently that would be 6.18 LTS or 6.19 — or restore the SUID bit on /usr/lib/polkit-1/polkit-agent-helper-1.
sudo chmod 4755 /usr/lib/polkit-1/polkit-agent-helper-1
It’s actually three commands (four when counting the one on the first line) -
one separated from the other by &&
when one has finished, the next in sequence is run
You could have run:
sudo rm -rf /etc/pacman.d/gnupg
sudo pacman-key --init
sudo pacman-key --populate archlinux manjaro
sudo pacman -Syu
With the added benefit of more easily being able to notice, at which command something might have failed.
It’s not exactly the same thing. If you concatenate the commands that you spread over four lines into a single line, then there would be semicolons (“;”) in between them instead of double ampersands (“&&”).
The double ampersands guarantee that the next command won’t get executed if the previous command fails. && is a logical “AND” operator in a POSIX shell.
mkay - so it would stop once one command would fail
… it would still be clear, where and why it failed … if it failed
