this is not a DE war thread , but an outrospection too see what more is out there, an exploration of user interfaces, and design. i have seen many, almost all, but there must be something i’ve missed.

what other desktop enviroments have you tried/used? please, show me pictures too.

i am looking for the odd, weird, crazy, funky and quirky stuff, and tell me what nice and interesting features they had ?

thanks for the reply guys, but i need more, i need DE overload. :pleading_face:

@swordfish yes i tried it, very different indeed

@Librewish been there, installed that, need more…

@whm1974 all of them, done

:slightly_smiling_face:

#6

The only general purpose DE I noticed missing is Liri. There is also Moksha which is a fork of E.

There are also specialized DEs for narrow target audiences like education.

#7

i will fire up the VM for these 2

wait what?!?! TempleOS is real? i thought it was a joke, im still laughing at
“talk to god on up to 64 cores” :joy: and then theres this:

The source code can also be found at the TempleOS web site, http://www.templeos.org but cannot be compiled outside TempleOS because it’s HolyC, a nonstandard C/C++ dialect, and asm.

HolyC?? where does one learn this Holy C? :cow2::gun:

#9

Yeah this a real OS and PL developed by a very mentally ill man. Both have very limited uses if any at all.

#10

check this out

and this

just icons on custom wallpaper, but it looks cool

#11

where are the giant shelves that hold all the anti-virus programs?

#12

some people said this was the future
the 3D desktop enviroment, interesting but heavy on the resources and sometimes buggy
eye candy for sure

:star_struck:

#13

they’ve broke the shelf and fell off the wall.

#14

cubes, and rotating desk

head spinning

#15

a nice collection gui’s resource, screenshots, icons, timeline, and more

#16

There is also this tool but it seems to be abandoned now. I just got myself interested in that topic, I’ll go and learn that language now :smiley:

Disclaimer: This tool is in super-hella-mega alpha stage. If you use this, you will die. Or worse, your current operating system will be replaced with TempleOS.

#17

I was trolling wallpapers on Deviant Art and came across this. Not even sure what I am looking at until I research it but looks neat.

OS: Linux Mint Maya 13
DE: KDE with BE::Shell
BE::Shell_Theme: BlackSheep-Orange by LaGaDesk(mod)
Bespin_Theme: Airaquio by LaGaDesk
Colors: LagadeskAiraquio

#18

thats what im talking about, thanks :smiley:

#19

Look at the stuff under the Arcan Graphics Framework, I believe the principal DE for it is called Durden.

#20

Is there such a thing as desktop environments anonymous, aka, DEA?
