Lost Wifi Capabilities overnight

It still finds the wifi stick through “lsusb” but there is no way to connect to any network.

Hi @uzhBFDVHDBSBHIVBS, and welcome!

More information is definitey needed. Please see:

Tip:

To provide terminal output, copy the text you wish to share, and paste it here, surrounded by three (3) backticks, a.k.a grave accents. Like this:

```
pasted text
```

This will just cause it to be rendered like this:

Portaest sed
elementum
cursus nisl nisi
hendrerit ac quis
sit
adipiscing
tortor sit leo commodo.

Instead off like this:

Portaest sed elementum cursus nisl nisi hendrerit ac quis sit adipiscing tortor sit leo commodo.

Thereby improving legibility and making it much easier for those trying to be of assistance.

Does this help? I really dont understand what Im doing tbh.

Please provide the output for:

Okay, thanks. Im still kind of confused because it worked perfectly yesterday. Where did the driver go?

Now that I don’t know.

After spending some time reading, according to this page it would seem the driver is built into the kernel:

The device is supported by kernel versions 2.6.34 and newer according to the LKDDb:

So, this is just a hunch based on this page:

Try installing linux-firmware from the core repository:

pamac install linux-firmware

I tried that just now and restarted my pc. It doesn’t seem to change anything though :confused:

Bummer! Oh well…

I don’t know what, if any good I’ll be able to gather from this, but it might do someone some good. Please provide a new, update output for:

inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --width

And then the output for:

rfkill

…please.

Also, like I said, I don’t know what to do or where to go next. I’m wingin’ it here. With that in mind, just know that I might dissapear any time now.

Uhm, okay. Thanks anyway.

Heres the “inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --width”

I have also just been reminded to make sure the USB device has sufficient power. That’s something that I frequently, and quite easily forget.

Edit:

Ensure that it’s not connected VIA USB hub or something like that.

Im 100% confused by this.

Do you mean the Wifi stick isnt getting enough power?
Can I adjust how much power comes through the USB Slot I use?

Its plugged in one of the Motherboards USB Slots directly.

Indeed. When using unpowered USB hubs, the power must be split between all the devices on the hub, which can lead to problems.

No.

That’s perfect!

IF perhaps, you can get your hands on another one you know works, to test with, you can at least rule out or confirm a hardware problem.

That was actually the first thing I thought of :sweat_smile:
I tested it with a laptop running Windows. The stick works there.
I also tested another Wifi stick, works on the Laptop but not my PC.

Also: The light on the stick blinks the same way on either computer. Not sure if this is valuable info in any way.

Well, my knowledge is officially exhausted. I really have no further idea.

Except:

I have read somewhere to install the mt7601u driver. Which is the AUR:

$ pamac search 7601
[...]
mt7601u-dkms-git                                                                                                                                                                                                                         latest-1       AUR
mt7601u DKMS driver

But that’s for MediaTek, so I left it. Then, just now I saw:

(Source)
No, I don’t know how reliable a source that is.

So I thought trying the driver might be a good idea. And seeing as it’s in the AUR, it can be easily installed with:

pamac build mt7601u-dkms-git

So, go ahead and try it, and see if it works.

The light on the Wifi stick is now just constantly on instead of blinking but apart from that nothing changed :confused:

Nope. Sadly still looks like the error.

OK, I’m officially out of ideas. I really have no idea what else to try. Or even think, because to me it looks like a hardware problem. And if it is, no amount of tinkering with software will help…

Well thats annoying :confused:

Thank you very much for all your work though!

try to load from a live-iso and check if your hardware get’s detected with the live iso, if possible try your hardware at another system to figure out if it’s a hardware related problem.
