SD card not detected (partially solved)

i cannot get the system to detect any sd-cards

what i’ve tried…

  • 2 phones (MTP)
  • 2 cables (phones charge, no data)
  • USB 2 & 3 ports (i know the ports are ok)
  • different kernels, inc. LTS
  • micro SD to USB adapter (no cables needed)

lsusb never lists the device
Dolphin never sees the device

kio-extras is installed
mtpfs is installed

this is what i’m seeing in journald.log when i plug in the SD to USB adapter with a micro SD in it…

regarding the phones, it looks like both USB cables may have been power only

i can now access the SD card when it’s in the phone by using another USB cable which i know supplies data

i still can’t access the SD card by using the SD to USB adapter however
