On login need to run Startx in TTY which will fail, but on my main screen X server will work

Hello forum users,

First time poster here.

I have got something weird. On boot I login, my DE/WM does not kick in, nothing works. I only see the loginscreen in the same state as it was when I pressed enter.

I figured that if I go to my 2nd tty crtl+alt+f2, login and run startx, in that tty startx will fail. When I went back to my DE it was working as intended. I honestly have no clue what is going on, I hope someone here does!

Run startx -- -logverbose 11 on the TTY after boot, then please provide the logs in ~/.local/share/xorg/.

No such folder or directory sadly. Did end up finding one:

maze .io /paste/p/sMuutszQkBAHgW1m (remove spaces, the forum does not allow me in any for or way to show this log, it’s driving me crazy. Not allowed to post links, and posting the log somehow has a link in it?).

That’s strange, Xorg running as root… Isn’t there an Xorg.?.log.old file somewhere? The log you posted is for the current session, but we need the log for a failed one.

I did not notice the root thing. However, there was a .old in the same log directory (/var/log)
maze .io /paste/p/7k4vSN11lsOBwx6V

[ 2963.829] (EE) Failed to open authorization file “/var/run/sddm/{116be1da-d341-476b-8f14-7807db00465a}”: No such file or directory

This might be the problem, but I’m not sure. Maybe it’s incorrect configuration? Please provide the Xorg configurations and the SDDM log for the failed session.

Hello,

Thanks for everything already! Really appriciated.

Xorg: maze. io /paste/p/LmTg94ms58jei5TW (Remove spaces).
SDDM log is something different, as I cannot for the life of me find it. To go to the max I also tried to use find to get it, but sadly that did nothing.

[berm@berm-pc ~]$ sudo find / -name sddm.log

No results. Any tips?

What about

journalctl -u sddm

?
