Octopi not updating AUR

well I will check the other laptop but the new one with fresh install the octopi options main windows is looking like you are saying, without option for checking the AUR

the options in the notifier tray icon is not the same, has an option for the updates

Yes, as I told I was remembering wrong, but at that time KDE was without package manager and they was planning to adopt octopi..

That is quite strange.

I have no idea what is up or down in this.

I installed octopi from the repo - I remember having checked it out before - but it never passed the evaluation.

This time is no different…

You demonstrate a functionality - it is obvious it exist on your system - but it does not on mine (manjaro unstable branch - octopi about says 0.19-dev).

Now this is beyond logic.

I discovered

  • if you open octopi
  • then open octopi-notifier

the option page launched by right-clicking the notifier icon is the octopi options page.

  • if you close both
  • the open octopi-notifier

the option page is octopi-notifier options - and the functionality becomes clear.

if there is any logic - it must be that the octopi-notifier is expected to be running - before you launch octopi

this is confusing at best, impossible to understand at worst.

I believe that’s its intended purpose, though; i.e. the notifier is expected to be there.

I may well be wrong, however. :man_shrugging: … but I don’t see the point of having the likes of Pamac installed without also having a notifier, if one desires a GUI-centric usage scenario.

Note (as with some others here) I only use the notifier(s) as such; I always recommend using the CLI for the actual software upgrades or installations. TTY is best, of course, particularly for major updates;)

you are right, same here
one more thing, after fresh install I run octopi notifier but at reboot is not in autostart while before once you run it once it will be keep running in the tray after reboot
now I’ve to add it to autostart manually

I wiil update only the browsers or minor updates via notifier, of course big updates always TTY

It’s in the settings for the octopi-notifier icon in the system tray, not in octopi itself.

Right-click the octopi-notifier icon in the system tray and choose “Options”. Then, in the dialog window, click on “Updates”. You’ll see a checkbox for the AUR at the bottom.

When this setting is active and there are AUR updates, the icon will turn yellow. When there are repo updates, it’ll turn red. When there are no updates, it’ll stay green.
