Well how to say I don’t want to sound greedy or anything just I need best performance for recording heavier demanding games.

I can record Screen Capture with (Xcomposite) on OBS but with all kinds of settings the quality is just not good.

Screen Capture with (Pipewire) does not even see any windows to select just blank.

So I wanted to use obs-vkcapture since people say its easier for the system to record with minimal loses of quality especially when recording heavy performance demanding games.

And software encoder also does not seem to work with obs-vkcapture.

I tried to record with different resolutions and so on but same problem.

Just to let people know I tried setting launch parameters in the game as obs-gamecapture #command# and obs_vkcapture=1 #command#. And all get is black screen with sounds.

At face value, it seems there’s nothing we can now suggest, until the OBS Project have addressed the linked issue #9764, and a fix filters down to the lower levels. The best you can do is keep monitoring there for a possible workaround in the meantime. It’s not a Manjaro issue.

Sine I saw OBS as native on Linux that’s pretty much why I jumped from Windows since I just don’t like their’s crazy terms of service agreements policies.

I don’t know who is at fault here is it obs or nvidia or both.

Just an Update

I checked my Proton logs when launching steam game via proton.

I see this issue

[obs-vkcapture] missing device extension: VK_EXT_external_memory_dma_buf

This vulkan extension was implemented in 515 version for the driver, mine is 535 so not sure what is the deal here.

On the obs-vkcapture GitHub page it states that the “Nvidia Driver version >= 515.43.04 and nvidia-drm.modeset=1 kernel parameter are required” for game capture. So, the theory is that any higher version will support it.

You are currently using Nvidia 535 drivers. If there is any issue with them, a new version is in the pipeline. Nvidia 545 drivers are currently in Testing (or, at least, they were yesterday) – See Nvidia 545 drivers might have issues – They typically won’t reach the Stable branch until any current issues are resolved. Hopefully, that won’t take too long.

However, I could find nothing that positively suggests Nvidia drivers are at fault; they may contribute to some extent, but nothing more. An internet search revealed many references to VK_EXT_external_memory_dma_buf but I found nothing that seemed significant.

As mentioned, the culprit appears to be the NVENC HEVC/H.264 crash referenced by OBS Project issue #9764 (and also present in your logs), which triggers a segmentation fault when attempting to record.

Leave this unsolved for a while if you like, but there’s no guarantee how long the OBS Project may take to reproduce the error, and push a fix. When that happens, it will no doubt filter down to all relevant packages. It’s probably best to start a new thread at that time.

Okay I GOT IT TO WORK.

Not sure if OpenGL programs will work with NVIDIA but this is good enough.

You reminded me of nvidia-drm.modeset=1 again. I have tried this before but my games did not launch at all that time.

But since I thought I am now on Kernel 6.1 LTS I put back nvidia-drm.modeset=1 in GRUB file, and it WORKS.

There is a possibility that there could be other factors that came to play to make things work, so for people you might have problems(these are probably just optional steps).

I uninstalled libva-vdpau-driver and installed libva-nvidia-driver instead.

in /etc/environment text file I put OBS_USE_EGL=1 obs setting. (This is for X11)
