Nvidia not working on xanmod

Hi all, I have 2 VGA controllers:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation GA106M [GeForce RTX 3060 Mobile / Max-Q] [10de:2520] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

I installed Nvidia with " sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300" and it says everything is ok:

but when I try to switch “optimus-manager --switch nvidia”
it logs into somthing but nvidia-smi returns an error:

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

I am running xanmod (5.18.4-xanmod1-1) and I think I lost the ability to switch to nvida months ago. I was working on other stuff so I didn’t need it much, but now I need to run CUDA and it just wouldn’t start. Not to mention that watching a video on 2x + a game on the Cezanne can lead to overheating. Any ideas how to turn on my nvidia?

I run xanmod because it seems the most stable so far with respect to suspend and hybernate, with the standard kernel the laptop doesn’t wake up or makes weird things.

please post the output of the tree commands below. if glxinfo isn’t installed then install the package “mesa-utils” to run it. btw. your nvidia-driver seems to be not installed and the command “optimus -switch” is actually not working due to some software issues, but there is a workaround. but first of all give us the needed basic informations of this 3 commands.

what difference you noticed using xanmod kernel vs normal manjaro kernel?

please post the output of

nvidia-smi | egrep -i Version

i’m sure nothing is in. if so please install
“linux518-nvidia” from the package manager and rerun the command again. do not change anything, just install it and check. if there are problems while installing nvidia518 driver please report. it might be possible that some header files are missing, but run this first and report

and by the way what distro is it (stable, unstable ) ? please post the output of

pacman-mirrors -G

If you don’t build the video driver with DKMS, Manjaro will not provide them for your AUR kernel.

Hi, yes, it’s empty. I thought I don’t need to install nvidia if I do it with “sudo mhwd -a pci nonfree 0300”
I’m installing it now, I’ll write later how it goes.

Well, it installed ok, but “nvidia-smi | egrep -i Version” returns still empty.

okay is there any reason to use this 5.18 kernel or did you have tried to do an update first ?

i would recommend to run a update first with

sudo pacman -Scc && sudo pacman-mirrors -f5 
sudo pacman -Syyu

I think at some point I just upgraded everything and nvidia stopped working but I didn’t need it then and I forgot to ask on the forum why. I’m pasting you below the output of the install I did, it keeps on getting nvidia:module not found . I’ll run now the two commands.

From what I could see you have a lot of kernels installed, some of them EOL, and thus the nvidia modules aren’t available any longer.

So, you’d first have to soft that out by removing them, then try again.

He’s running Xanmod kernel from the AUR.
