Hello!
I use a mindmap program written in java called freeplane. With the nouveau driver the performance / fps moving the map is surprisingly bad.
With the prop. nvidia driver or my radeon iGPU (ryzen APU) movement is fine and smooth.
With nouveau i get about 3 fps moving the map (its a small map, no significant cpu performance is required).
I have 2 installs of manjaro, one is manjaro unstable and the other a fresh manjaro stable.
Does anyone have an suggestion how to continue?

The nouveau driver is known to cause a performance drop - the price to pay when trying to refactor a proprietary driver.
If possible use nvidia driver for Nvidia card
My nvidia 4070 is at least 10 times slower then my iGPU when i use nouveau, there has to be something seriously wrong in this scenario for the performance to be as bad as that.
I read a while back that the primary developer on nouveau got hired by Nvidia (cannot remember where) but even so - you should use the latest Nvidia proprietary driver.
Quite possible - Manjaro Linux does not maintain the nouveau driver.
The Nouveau driver is unusable for many things unfortunately. I use only proprietary. I hate it for a few minor things, but there’s really no choice.
The brighter side is that your generation GPU will be included in the new open source driver versions Nvidia is finally releasing.
