Hi, I upgraded my system yesterday and the external display stopped working. Did a little research and thought a good idea to downgrade the kernel (can’t say more details as can’t access my computer).
So I installed a previous lts version, deleted the “new” and rebooted.
Now my computer is stuck and not loading anything. No prompt or anything. It just says
/dev/sda3: clean, xxxx/xxxx files, xxxxx/xxxx blocks
Stays there for a while, then
[failed] failed to start VMware networks
Udate: the installed kernel versions I have are
Manjaro Linux (kernel: 4.19.219-1-manjaro x64)
Manjaro Linux (kernel: 4.19.219-1-manjaro x64-ballback intramfs)
None of these works though, it keeps getting stuck at a black screen.
I waited a little longer and after the VMware failed start it displayed
[FAILED] Failed to start pkgfile database update
I don’t know if this is relevant?
Help!
When you rebooted did you choose the kernel you downloaded so it would boot from that kernel.
Hello @Davidajm and welcome
How did you do this?
Thanks for answering!
In the kernel GUI I deleted the current (newest) version and installed a previous one. I thought that after the reboot it would use the installed kernel version by default as there was not a “choose this kernel” option.
Now I can’t even access my computer!!
Hi!
No, I couldn’t find a “boot with this version” option. I assumed that by just installing it, it would boot with the (now only) version installed.
Apparently it didn’t and I can’t even get a prompt or something!
When you reboot hold the esc or shift key to get to the options and select advanced. Then you will have the option of which kernel to use.

Pressed shift and now I’m in the manjaro boot menu, went to advanced and there are two versions:
Manjaro Linux (kernel: 4.19.219-1-manjaro x64)
Manjaro Linux (kernel: 4.19.219-1-manjaro x64-ballback intramfs)
Both take me to the same black screen that won’t boot :S
