No one noticed this above?
So, should I just enable ehci-hcd?
EDIT. I cannot modprobe that. I mean, I copy the command, but it still says inactive.

I have a file in /etc/modules-load.d called usb3.conf
In this file, it contains:
xhci_pci
xhci_pci_renesas
Maybe adding here something?
Go into your BIOS, look for the section containing USB settings. Make sure xhci is enabled in BIOS. I could be more precise if I downloaded your specific mainboard manual, but frankly, I can’t be bothered.
Sleep is beckoning. Cheers.
I added the line to grub.
But I could not find IOMMU in Bios. The Bios says VT-d is not supported.
In BIOS, USB setup, there’s the following:
USB 2.0 --- Enabled
USB 3.0 --- Enabled
Legacy USB 2.0 --- Enabled
Legacy USB 3.0 --- Enabled
Description of Legacy USB 3.0 mentions XHCI.
All are enabled. That is usually the desired state. Now, activate ehci-hcd as @Yochanan previously highlighted:
sudo modprobe ehci-hcd
Then check that your USB ports are working (a reboot will likely be required). That is all.
I did it. They are still not working. Moreso, after typing sudo modprobe ehci-hcd
, it still doesn’t show as active when checking with hwinfo --usb-ctrl
.
Rebooting does nothing.
I’ve tried a few devices in the usb3.0 ports. PS gamepad does not come to live, neither does Bt antenna, nor WiFi antenna. My smartphone at least can get some charge in the rear usb ports, but not in the front. When charging the smartphone in the front 3.0 port, it flickers, as if it was trying to detect it constantly.
It also does not show ehci_pci in /proc/modules.
Why is ehci-hcd not being loaded to active modules?
Maybe this helps.

A good question, however my only answer has to be .
I think it was previously established that you don’t have a renesas chipset/controller/other in your system. It might pay to comment or remove the xhci_pci_renesas
line from:
/etc/modules-load.d/usb3.conf
and again try sudo modprobe ehci-hcd
, followed by a reboot.
ehci is still refusing to load.
I am wondering, there’s xhci-hcd module which says it is active, but in the module.d/usb3.config file, only xhci-pci is showing.
This is lsmod output:
lsmod | grep xhci 127 ✘
xhci_pci 28672 0
xhci_pci_renesas 24576 1 xhci_pci
See? xhci_hdc is not there.
again, use a live-iso and check if usb is working with it or if there is a general malfunction. anything else is playing jeopardy.
Ok, this is weird.
My live-usb intiates correctly in the rear usb3.0 but not from the front usb3.0. Rear port is integrated in the motherboard, while front port is connected to the motherboard by a cable, I should check it.
Rear usb3.0 is now able to read a pendrive, but only if I leave it connected before rebooting. Gamepad is detected in the rear if it is connected before rebooting too. However, Wifi antenna is never detected in the 3.0 port.
In other words, only a few devices are detected, but never on the go.
This is now poking in the fog:

Hope there’s something that brings light.
Is this the non-functioning hub ?
I seem to have have the same one, and it works.

- Please try to install renesas firmware (even if it may not help)
- Recreate your initrds (mkinitcpio -P)
- Reboot
Thank you.
While rebooting, I’d like to show something from lspci -nnk
:
00:14.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB xHCI Host Controller [8086:1e31] (rev 04)
Subsystem: ASRock Incorporation Motherboard [1849:1e31]
Kernel driver in use: xhci_hcd
Kernel modules: xhci_pci
I didn’t know the difference of xhci_hcd and xhci_pci, but apparently both are needed. xhci_hcd is built in kernel, the other is added as a module.
Well there is upd72020x-fw
in the AUR.
I dont know about the above discussion, whether the module should already exist or not, etc…
But it is listed on the archwiki
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Mkinitcpio#Possibly_missing_firmware_for_module_XXXX
check for a valid connection of the cables and a firmware-update of the bios first. fingers crossed that a possible wrong connection to the front-usb didn’t harm your usb-controller port.
Cables checked. They were fine. It was hard to connect them again. Many small pins.
Maybe updating the BIOS? It worked well with Windows, so I didn’t suspect the bios, but who knows?
Thank you. I’ve installed it now. Let’s see.
