No touchpad on windows or linux - hp pavilion g6

I sent the machine in to get the fan cleaned out and i suspect that the touchpad has been unplugged
after i got the fan cleaned out i formatted and stuck w10 back on it

The touchpad isn’t working and the drivers I got from HP are for Windows 8.

so I made a live USB and booted into Manjaro and did executed lspci

And as I couldn’t see the touchpad there, i did dmesg | grep i8042 and its saying

bad usage

and this is where I’ve run out of ideas.

How should I proceed?

try lsusb and look for touchpad?

I guess open the laptop and check? there are usually 1-2 ribbons that fold up to the motherboard from the bottom of the laptop, re-seat them. the tech might have removed the fan so they could also be located close to the fan and he’s had to unplug them to move the fan out. If you’re not confident doing this im sure the same shop would inspect it for free

If it’s not working on either Windows or Linux even after installing drivers, then it’s probably a hardware issue, and you need to contact the company for help. Or you can open up the laptop and fix it.
