"no such cryptodisk found" out of the blue

Hello, I am new to Manjaro - after years of using Ubuntu I thought I was finally ready, but maybe not…
I’ve been using Manjaro the past two months without any major issues, and a few days ago, out of the blue, I get this on boot after typing in my encryption password:

error: access denied.
error: no such cryptodisk found
Entering rescue mode...

I was reading forum posts on this, but everything I found came with a warning not to do it unless I know what I’m doing (I don’t). I’d be very greatful if someone could walk me out of this!

The list of partitions is as follows:

(hd0) (hd0,msdos2) (hd0,msdos1) (proc)

and the first three come up as Filesystem is unknown.

Thanks

An encrypted disk
has on it typically not a file system itself
but it contains a file system (inside an encrypted container)

I assume that this message comes from Grub (the boot loader, trying to open that container).

I’m not sure of that.

Only you know how you set up your system and what you chose to be encrypted …

It can be assessed from a live medium - also to access the data and recover it, if need be.

I’m sure there is a way to do it without that
that this is relatively easy to recover from -
but I don’t know enough about Grub to be of any help.

… there are also the “advanced” boot options - the second entry is the “emergency” one …
