Previously, I was using Manjaro Gnome, and I was only able to produce sound through my second monitor (DP-1), and my main monitor (DP-3) would not produce sound, which I did not mind as one was good enough.

On that older system I had messed around with my audio setup quite a bit to get Bluetooth working which was ultimately a futile effort.

However, having switched to Xfce after a fresh install, I am not getting any audio out of either. I have tried almost every setting on the sound mixer, to no avail.

When I select the Digital Stereo output (GA104 High Definition Audio Controller), the sound bar in the Volume Control jumps around, but no actual sound is produced.


The headphones work just fine.

I want to get audio out of either one of the Monitors if I can.

I am not sure what other logs I need to post that would be helpful. I am more than happy to provide anything. First post, sorry if it is horrible.

Have you considered installing the original proprietary Nvidia driver instead of the reverse-engineered open source driver? I mean, I can understand that using nouveau is crucial for old hardware, but you own a RTX 3070.

There is a preinstalled gui tool called “Manjaro Settings Manager”. There you can install the driver with MHWD: Configure Graphics Cards - Manjaro

That is probably the whole issue here.

Thanks! I went to the Gui tool and just hit “install proprietary drivers” and after a scarily long boot (which thankfully hasnt reoccured) everything seems to be working!

Have you considered installing the original proprietary Nvidia driver instead of the reverse-engineered open source driver? I mean, I can understand that using nouveau is crucial for old hardware, but you own a RTX 3070.

To be honest, I am very new to Linux and was not aware of any tangible differences between the drivers. I just went along with whatever was the default during the installation process (or at least I dont remember making a conscious decision on choosing the open source drivers.)
