No sound only "Dummy Output" on Huawei Matebook D 15 (Intel)

Hello everyone,

I am trying (and failing) to get the sound of the integrated loudspeakers working for my HUAWEI MateBook D 15 (Specs [German]: https:// consumer.huawei. com/de/laptops/matebook-d-15/specs/ (remove spaces)) running on Intel Core i3-10110U. I have listed the things I tried and the logs below. I am running Manjaro with GNOME desktop.

What did I expect:
I expected to hear sound through the integrated loudspeakers.

What did happen instead:
When I set the volume (or look into pavucontrol) I can only see a “Dummy Output” which does not make any sound. When playing YouTube via browser I can see via pactl list that something is playing (kernel 5.14 and dsp_driver=0):

When I pair a bluetooth speaker I can hear the sound of the device via it. I think the integrated soundcard somehow fails to be initialized but I ran out of ideas of what to do. System is up-to-date (pacman -Syu shows no updates).
Running aplay -l only shows HDMI audio devices (but audio does not work via HDMI or audio jack)

When running in default configuration (dsp_driver=0) both of the digital mics work. With dsp_driver=1 neither mics nor speaker work.

Things I tried (rebooted in between):

Tried to install newest kernel: 5.14.7-2-MANJARO
Tried latest stable kernel: 5.10.63-1-MANJARO

and for each tried the following:

  1. In /etc/modprobe.d/dsp-fix.conf:
    options snd_intel_dspcfg dsp_driver=1

  2. In setting older driver via kernel parameters:
    vi /etc/default/grub
    and adding: snd-intel-dspcfg.dsp_driver=1
    to the end of GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT
    then running:
    update-grub

  3. Deleting old configs etc:
    rm ~/.config/pulse/*.tdb ~/.config/pulse/cookie

  4. Setting /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf (with dsp_driver=1)
    options snd_hda_intel model=generic
    or
    options snd_hda_intel model=auto

  5. Setting the deprecated config option:
    echo “options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0” | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-fix.conf

Could it be, that there is at the moment a problem with Tiger Lake and Comet Lake soundchips and manajro?

In my experience the huaweis require a bit of diving in and manually setting apic paths and the like.

… I just cant remember how exactly I found the right things and did that with the matebook …

(just for reference I ended up having to append ivrs_ioapic[4]=00:14.0 ivrs_ioapic[5]=00:00.2 to boot options … do not follow this … it was machine specific)

I have the same issue on my Matebook d16.

It seems that the Everest sound card used by Huawei in this laptop is not yet supported in Linux. An issue for supporting this sound card through SOF was created here (not by me): [FEATURE] Support for ES8336 on Intel Comet Lake · Issue #3248 · thesofproject/linux · GitHub The issue also links a repo which seems to make the sound device work, but no sound is audible through speaker or headset.

Having the same issue with Chuwi Gemibook Pro, Celeron N5100 (2021 Jasper Lake CPU).
