No sound at all MSI Laptop

I have tried multiple kernels, the last one i ended up on was linux-lts. I have tried messing withe the volume levels in alsamixer.

dmesg | grep snd

gives nothing.

I was going to post journalctl but i dont have enough room here and also do not have permission to post links to my github gist.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a msi stealth pro and there’s a design fault with it. The speaker connection is right next to the gpu and when the gpu gets warm I lose sound. It maybe a similar issue or does it only happen with manjaro?

Works just fine in windows… I am currently trying to transition out of windows.

Its been almost a month, doesn’t anyone have any ideas? here is the manjaro-logs-helper log file i couldnt post before. link to my gist.github like which contains the log file. I figured its too big to just post here. Anyways, if this is an issue that we cant solve, can anyone explain how to report a bug in the linux kernel? Others with similar laptops had to do this, but I am unsure how to and would like to not make a fool of myself lol. Thanks to anyone who takes time out of their day to help me!

I remember I had the same issue with my wife’s computer. I finally got it fixed by installing PulseAudio Volume Control (pavucontrol). After installation, you have to launch it and activate the speaker or something like that from what I remember. Give it a try, and see if that fixes the problem.

I have, and i have also tried alsamixer and such. its activated, and the volumes up high. just no sound comes out.

See if you see anything in this link that you haven’t already tried.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting#Auto-Mute_Mode

I have just tried all of the above. I dont think its muted. Here is a screenshot of it playing music, though nothing is actually playing through the speakers. Screenshot from 2020-12-24 21-39-57

it moves along as if it was playing.

I ran sudo dmesg | grep -C1 -E ‘ALSA|HDA|HDMI|snd[_-]|sound|hda.codec|hda.intel’
and got this:

seems it doesnt think i have speakers. I tried pinning unpinned pins in hdajackretask with no luck either…

I am also using a MSI Stealth laptop and I have also encountered this issue.

I have also tried pavucontrol and alsamixer, but neither of them works.

Well, I tried re-installation and found sometimes this helps. I have tested this on Manjaro GNOME and Pop!_OS. But the problem is how often I need to reinstall so that the headphones work. REALLY getting tired of it.

Hey buddy, I don’t know if you have solved this problem or not, but I have done it.

It turns out everything (alsa, pavucontrol, and other drivers) are totally normal in my case, and the reason why my headphones have no sound is because of electrical leakage. :innocent:

There is one way to solve this problem: unplug your charger & headphones first and shut down. Wait for some time, like 5 minutes, then switch on your computer WITHOUT the charger. Plug in your headphones to test the sound. If you have the sound back, you can then put in your charger.

Hope this can help you : ).
